An update for those interested on bringing boxing back to Cardiff, on february 12th in the Star leisure centre (splott) will be a professional boxing show, with the Gavin Rees and John watson rematch headlining. Thanks for all the feed back last time by the way, always helpful. More info to follow on the show as it comes.

Is the Rees-Watson fight just a headliner to bring a crowd in?

I struggle to believe it can be made at 3-4 weeks notice.

thought Rees/Watson was going to be at Bridgend Rec?

never seen a show at The Star, so would go to this.

as Grant1 says though time is ticking on for 12 Feb.

I heard about this a few weeks ago. Great to see boxing back at the Star (I haven't been there for a boxing show since early '96 watching Joe Calzaghe box Pat Lawlor, an old foe of Roberto Duran - think it may have even been the last pro show there?).

I'd have thought it was a bit small though for a British title fight, especially involving someone of Rees' local drawing power. Rees-Watson II would sell the Star out 5 times over.

Thats the news i heard yesterday from very reliable sources, it is short notice but from what i gathered if the job hadn't been taken by this person the fight was in danger due to lack of location availability etc. Should be good though!!

It's a Matchroom show in conjunction with Kevin Hayde, with Sky broadcasting as far as I'm aware.
The Star's a great venue, and I'm very pleased to see pro boxing there again, just as I say, it seems a bit small for a fight of this magnitude. Perfect for "small hall" shows, so to speak.

Will this not be on Sky? if so wont there need to be at least one quality undercard fight?

What happened to Bridgend? as Scuba Steve said how do we get tickets?

So many questions, great news though.

Tickets aren't available just yet, the promoters will be sorting out the floor-plan this week (which will ultimately decide venue capacity), and then they should be available very soon, probably by next week I'd imagine, primarily from Cardiff Box Office (in the C.I.A).

:goodCool. He's got some good things coming to Cardiff in the future, he's trying to do a lot to bring boxing back to Cardiff where it's been pretty much dormant since 2007. I spoke with Kevin on the phone yesterday and I was impressed with his plans for future events.
Really good to see someone with the experience and connections actually making an effort to do something about it with such enthusiasm, and the local boxing community needs to pull together on this and support it all.

Who am I? Nobody of any real consequence in the grand scheme of things. My name's Gareth Seward, I'm a pro trainer at the Jim Driscoll Gym in Cardiff (above the Royal Oak). Who might you be sir? :D
