    Dave,
If Barry Hearn believes the offer to be atrocious, I'm inclined to believe him. You can make the case that the rewards will be great for McCloskey if he wins, but all promoters assess the chance that their guy might lose. I mean Khan and his team have opened talks with McCloskey as they think it'll be an easy win but at the same time they are asking for options and wanting (imo)too much of the revenue. If they were 100% confident, why ask for all that?
I have consistently stuck up for Khan in the past but since he left Warren, I'm sick of hearing how everyone is asking for too much. Even though it was written clearly in the rules of the WBA that an interm champ is entitled to 45% when fighting a unification fight, Team Khan tried to make out that Maidana was being greedy and unreasonable for asking for it. Hence why I'm inclined to believe Barry H on this one.

All that stuff is only good to you if you win though right? As you said on the last page, a bad lose could tarnish his reputation and severely reduce his future earnings. Why take 1 fight worth 50% more (than what he usually makes), when it might stop you have 3-4 good paydays afterwards.

Paul could very well be getting another chance soon, his team have been trying to work their own path to a title, and it could be an easier path and have some good paydays of his own along the way. Why jepordise that if Khans team are not making it worthwhile.

And I know some people have expressed the opinion, "he obviously doesn't think he can win it" (I'm paraphrasing), or you are saying he should take his chance. But how much chance do you give him? On here, if we did a poll, how many of us fans would say he could do it ... 15% - 5% I'd say.

Would you bet a years salary on McCloskey winning?

Put it this way. I’m just going to throw McCloskey and what I think he deserves, alongside the Khan and Maidana earnings for their fight:

    - Khan – 950k
    - Maidana – 450k
    - McCloskey – 150k

This sum is fair for McCloskey in my opinion. But if Khan's earnings are higher (seeing as though the fight is in the UK), that 150k should increase as appropriate.

Ed, I'll respond to this in a bit. My boss is keeping a watchful eye on me.

    Edit:

But mate, that's the risk you take. Khan realizes this too with what's at stake for him. Because if he loses, it would be far more detrimental to his career. Paul's implications are made bad only if he's thoroughly outclassed. If he manages to give a good account of himself, he'll have lost nothing (other than an undefeated record). He'll still keep his Euro titles, and he'll still have the same opportunities he has now.

I believe him too. Just seeing the argument from a risk-reward scenario. Khan's team have an inflated sense of worth from working with Warren, I think.

That'd be an average ticket price of over £90.

    Not likely.

At least Frank got the fights made. He obviously gave the right offers to MAB and Kotelnik for them to come to the UK.
If left up to Khans people, they would have been offered a mug full of unmarked pound coins and a free weekend in a caravan at Skegness.

So it's ok to make up gate and PPV revenues but you can't make up McCloskey's previous purse amounts? :rofl

Warren, like any promoter, has his weaknesses. But I think he’s good for the sport in general, and good for his fighters. He knew he needed to rebuild Khan so he got the right guys at the right time and made sure it was in their interest.

It’s all about risk-reward. McCloskey knows this is high risk, so he wants to make sure he’s properly rewarded. As ever, I see both sides – but Khan and his team always annoy me with their attitude.

I expect Khan facing the Bradley-Alexander winner will be a nightmare akin to Haye-Wlad.

I'm hopeful it'll be made. You are going to have King or Shaw in the mix which isn't ideal but I believe HBO will make sure they can come to terms.:rosstheboss

If he loses, he's got a rematch clause sure, and promotional rights on Paul. He's also making in the millions already, and will be for this fight too.

I don't think we should talk about Khan's side, not saying Khan isn't taken risks, but I don't think that's relevant here. This is about whether Paul should take on the fight if he feels the money isn't worthwhile.

Well first, I assume he'll have to give up his Euro belt for this shot, like Munroe and Harrison recently. Even Kiko Martinez and Barker had to give up their belts just because they were injured. Paul would have to go back and win that again.

I'm sure he could get another shot (to get back his Euro), but he's not young and aging fast. He would probably still draw a crowd, but if it's obvious he hasn't got a future above Euro, I couldn't imagine it'd be that big.

Right now there are other world belts on the go. WBC might be available soon (Olusegun is in an eliminator) and Mabuza is fightin Judah for the IBF. There's potential for McCloskey to go down those paths right now, that might not be there later this year. (assuming he loses, and has at least one comeback fight, could be end of the year before he'd be back ready again)

At the moment he's got options, a belt, undefeated record. After a loss, might not have any of those.

So he's risking a lot, and at a crucial time in his career, the small window where a fighter of his caliber will be looking to make his career payday, to give him some money to retire with.

You can't base you livelihood on the hope of overcoming seriously long odds. Would you?

It wouldnt be outrageous to say that McCloskeys purse has never topped 65K.

Considering HBO Sky ppv and tickets sales may be in the region of £4 million McCloskey should be paid in the region of 250 k afterall it takes two to make a fight and regardless of drawing power it takes two to make a fight.

Does anyone know khans previous ppv numbers.?

If i remember rightly they have been pretty poor.
