Difficult to classify Vargas, I mean he was knocked out by essentially 3 Welterweights, albeit all were big punchers, so how fair is it claim he was chinny? then again, if he had a stronger chin, maybe he doesn't get knocked out by those guys? its a toughie. :huh

I don't know. I rate his chin as at least above average...

Comparable to someone like Jermain Taylor you reckon? I see him maybe as that kinda guy, a decent chin, but crackable, particularly the more tired he gets.

Maybe I just hit on something there ? that both Taylor and Vargas seemed prone to getting tired late in fights, maybe that is where their chins became easier to crack as the fight wore on? maybe their stamina played a part?

Calling Vargas chinny is exceptionally harsh.

Beaten up and stopped by Trinidad, worn down and stopped by Oscar..... well on the slide when stopped by Shane.

It was only the 2nd fight with Mosley where he took a hiding really.....

Nothing wrong with his chin at all.

Yeah very good point. I thought the fight was over then, or would be over very shortly. He looked completely crippled by that body shot. Next thing he seemed completely fine.

But those Latin American fighters do mask pain really well. He was probably burning inside, but put on his best stone face and marched on.

Definitely. I'd say fatigue played somewhat more of a role in Vargas' case, where he just wound up taking a greater and greater accumulation.

Taylor got wrecked by more or less single shots (and of course, the opportunity for those shots to land came from him hitting the wall...but still, it's a bit more of an equal combination of both factors in his case).

    Agree.

Vargas had a tendency to fight in spurts did'nt he? against Winky, Quartey.

Yep. He was probably well aware (or his corner was) that he didn't have it in him to go a full 12x3, every minute at 100%.

Gotta be honest, I think he gets very underrated to. Vargas beat Winky, controversial, but.....

Vargas also beat Quartey, who for my money, beat Forrest and Oscar.
