There is a difference between "making up" and using your brain to come up with an estimation.

Level of purses are usually private things that rarely divulged and can have hidden clauses that skew the figure - i.e. merchandise, tickets allocation etc.

However, its not hard to work out what the basic gross revenue from a fight of this sort would unless you have been through a lobotomy.

Capacity of MEN = circa. 21,500 average ticket price, say £90. = £1.95m

PPV sales for the event, say 200k based on leaks of previous sales x £15 per PPV = £3m

Giving a basic gross revenue of approximately £5m not to mention merchandise, sponsorship etc = approximately £5m

Now next time you try and be a smart arse you are going to have to try harder.

Personally, I would've still took it. As long as my travel expenses and corner pay can be taken care of, sign me the **** up.

It's a world title shot, who knows if it's going to come again. Especially if it's a winnable fight. From the story it looks like McCloskey has been cockblocked by either his manager or trainer.

I just don't believe the offer could be any lower than any other fight he's had. It's not as if rejecting this he's going to get big cash fights anytime soon. This was a gateway.

The funny thing is that whenever Team Khan make an offer to the opponents it is always a career high for the opponent.

I remember when they offered Murray £150k but then it was rejected and they asked for £300k. Now before anyone has a rant over this remember it was over a year ago and to me it seems much better than the petty £20-30k he may get paid at the moment for fighting in shitty sports centres. Looks like he'll be doing that for a while now.

The bottom line is it is irrelevant what Khan is making he is giving the chance for the opponent to make a career high payday and thats the bitter truth not to mention a title shot as a bonus so now you tell me who are the greedy ones????

And if John Murray was offered £150k last year then i'm sure McCloskey would have been offered at least the same if not more, not confirmed but a sensible guess based on facts

Problem is the next Khan fight will gross ROUGHLY the same amount of money with any one of a number of fighters in the other corner and Khan is using that fact.

The opponent will never get what looks like a reasonable split of the revenue in that situation, its a buyers market. A more realistic way of MCloskey to look at it would be forget what Khan is getting or what the total revenue for the fight is likely to be and just ask if his purse is a reasonable amount for a light welterweight title challenger. If it isn't even that high then fair enough, walk away.

Khan is already a name here in the U.K and is starting to make his name over in the States, if he ever gets a shot at Floyd Khan would of by then cleaned up 140(like he is planning to do) and made a decent name over in the States.

So you cant really compare the two, yes still Floyd would take the bigger purse, but we talking of millions here and it's not like Khan has no money, i think to him it will be more of the case of him getting a shot at Floyd and trying to make history by beating him.

So, in your opinion would Khan be happy with say 1/10 of the purse in a fight with Floyd, with a rematch clause if Floyd wins, and having to sign options which change his management?

So from your £5 million guesstimate (even though it looks like you’ve seriously overestimated the revenue from the live gate to me), how of much that will be available to the fighters then? And what is a fair purse for McCloskey in your opinion?

Well if you are not happy with the estimation then put forward your own. Lets say its 20,000 on the gate at an average ticket price of £90 and it only does 150k PPV sales. That's still over £4m excluded merchandise and sponsorship etc.

I'm not sure what percentage would go to the boxers? Does anyone know a benchmark that has been provided in the past? Why not give McCloskey some sort of percentage of gate and PPV receipts in order to give him an incentive to promote the fight?

What do I think is a fair purse? Anywhere in the region of £150,000 to £200,000 seems fair.

Khan's team are being very greedy. You need to pay to get good opponents - you can't keep saying that the opportunity makes low pay worthwhile.

I hate all these guessing games to be honest but I reckon £90 quid average is steep.

If you find the prices from a previous fight and a seating plan you should be able to work it out fairly easily.

But we should talk about Khan's side. Because one of the main arguements I think Paul's camp are coming out with is "Look at what Khan's making in comparison to us". They're looking at the things he's benefitting from. They should then also be looking at the things he's risking.

I was under the impression he gets to keep his Euro belts? If he loses, he can go back at defend them?

And honestly, I was hearing the same thing from the Thaxtons and Murrays a couple of years ago. They too said they were being undervalued, and that for the money they were being offered, they'd be better of continuing on the road they were on then. Fast forward to now, where are they and where is Khan? The same thing could happen with Paul.

Anyway, has anyone got actual figures yet? Laz?

I take it you've got the figures they were offering Paul then?
