Right now, Pacquiao, though it's mostly offensive minded. All around, maybe Wlad, very structured and predictable, but textbook. All time, Willie Pep obviously, infact I'll even throw in best movement of all time for him.
I like the contrast between the footwork of Floyd and Pac too. Floyd has excellent footwork in a sense that even if he's not constantly moving (to the point of looking a bit flat footed lately), he's just always in the right position and often setting traps like you mentioned. It's like he treats it as a game of chess. Whereas Pac is constantly moving, darting in and out and always moving into positions where he can throw his huge arsenal of punches with great effect.
Indeed. First thing I though of when you mentioned Donaire were those spin moves he did against Darchinyan
I would say quite the opposite. When Nas used to get hit it looked alot worse than it really was because he's feet would be out of place and his centre of gravity was off so often. He has a great chin, but he suffered plenty of flash knockdowns simply by being out of position. Mike Tyson had excellent footwork going forward. Never was out of position while cutting off the ring and used to set up some beautiful angles while fighting in his hey-day.
Sure he did guys look at his highlights package on youtube its got some good displays. Check out his youtube HLs and then get back to me, I think his footwork is very good he might've been a dancer when he was young. Im not a big fan of Naseem by the way, just like his Boxing.
No his footwork was never that great. He relied almost exclusively on his natural athletic ability than anything else and for the most part it worked as it was a confusing style but it's not something you'd teach to young boxers learning how to move. Bad example.
Would agree with most of the answers, but one glaring omission is Bad Chad... massively underrated footwork!
Its a really not noticable, but a really vital asset to a good and stylisticly pleasing boxer. That may sound a bit weird, but what I'm saying is this: When you watch a guy fight, big power and fast hands immediately catch your attention. They are impossible to miss, and get you a bit interested in the fight. If you think about some boxers that you are really effective at their craft (look at the names brough up so far in this thread) there is a real constant thread of really good footwork. **** explanation admitedly, but Im sure you know what I mean. Look at the current best 3 boxers in the world (in no particular order): Pac, Martinez and Mayweather. All of them fight in very different ways out of very different stances. All have ****ing outstanding footwork. My favorite non-active fighter of recent years, love him or hate him, Mr J Calzaghe, is another example of a guy who could only do what he did because of outstanding footwork.
Roman Gonzalez. Superb economics make him outstanding at cutting off the ring and makes him look every bit the destroyer against movers. He's shortened his stance a bit, and though it can still be deep, he betrays very few issues with balance.
