Team Khan: We've Offered Him Almost Three Times What He Got Paid For His Last Fight!

Has anyone got anything new to bring to the table? I'm sick of people plucking figures out of the air and second guessing what's happening behind closed doors.

There seems to be more threads about money and negotiations than the actual sport itself. It's just ******ed.atsch

 

Khan is thinking too small, he should call out Hatton and get that super fight made, both make a lot of money, and Khan can get another faded legend on his resume. And Hatton is deluded enough to think he can win it, just like he was winning the second round versus Pac "by a country mile" until...

 

Some of the figures people put together can be funny reading.

Why does it shock people how little Mccloskey, could possibly have earned in his previous fights, with posters saying "it can't be possible he earned so little"...

I have no clue what he earned in his last bout, but I think often people see these sums of money that Mayweather and Pac and the like are earning for there big fights, and forgot to realise that most professional boxers earn a pretty small amount.

Boxing for the majority is a hard hard sport, for which the rewards for years of dedicated training, and hard 8 week camps 4 or 5 times a year, is a pay which after tax/managers/trainers comes out probably no better off than your average man on the street with a decent'ish job.

Even country level champions/Euro champions, and even sometimes world champions can often still earn only 50k per fight... it's all because ultimately your worth in boxing is only what you are worth to the broadcasters, and even then, unless your on PPV the sums are money are pretty low. If you were the star attraction, like Khan was on something like ITV's "the big fight live" cards, you wouldn't get over 100k with many of the undercard fighters getting as low as a few grand.

For reference, on a SKY PPV, figures range from 70/80k sells on the low end, such as some of Khan's PPV's or Warren's which produces of purse sum of about £400k, to on the high end, 800k buys + for Haye vs Audley, which can result in sometimes a purse of £7.5million (as often for a big fight the promoter can negotiate a greater return than £5 per buy)

 

Proper negotiations typically don't involve chilidish yelling and name-calling throughout various press statements, I hope they're awake of that.

His managerial advisor and father-in-law, Francie McNicholl and Matchroom Promotions are still talking to Khan and Golden Boy Promotions. The two sides are far apart on the money, said Matchroom Promotions head Barry Hearn. He called Khan’s offer “a joke.”
“they’re interested that’s for sure but it’s complicated. It’s looking very good and I’m waiting to hear back from him. I think for an American like Lamont Peterson to come to England there’s no real selling point but for Khan to fight an undefeated European champion from Ireland, there’ll be massive interest,” McCloskey told The Bourne Local.
McCloskey was not impressed with Khan’s big decision win last month over Marcos Maidana. He thinks Khan has improved but he’s still very beatable. McCloskey felt Maidana didn’t have the proper skills to finish Khan off in the tenth round.
“Khan is seen as something of a superstar but he’s certainly beatable,” declared McCloskey. “Yes, he’s improved dramatically under Freddie Roach but in his last fight Maidana had him rocked. There’s women on any dance floor that can dance better than Maidana and he had Khan in trouble so I wasn’t impressed.
“The referee could have stepped in and stopped the fight when Maidana caught Khan in the 10th round but it was Khan’s conditioning which stood by him, he ran like a mad man trying to stay out of the way. Maidana took serious punches from Khan but except for the that one body punch at the start when he went down he wasn’t rocked. Khan’s not a big puncher

 

McCloskey mocking Maidana is pretty ridiculous. Maidana may not exactly be a great technical boxer, but he has two things which let him compete at that level.. resilience and a damn good punch.

McCloskey is nowhere near world level, nor at his age do I expect he will ever be.
Khan should fight Peterson, then at least it's a decent'ish known name for his record. Fighting McCloskey will make more money as its a good one to promote in the UK, but ultimately when people look back, it'll be considered a bit of a joke considering the guy will be shown to be far out of his league and quickly dispatched by Khan.
