You constantly read that the fans who watch Haye's fights, tune in to see him on TV, listen to his interviews and so on are deluded. Make what you will of Haye's resume in boxing so far, but the fans don't but into him because they're deluded.

Haye is the result of what the Klitschko's and other heavyweights have done. He is a product of the negativity that they've brought into boxing. If you think Haye's a fraud, fair enough, but think about why he's here and why so many people are interested in him. He's the only heavyweight with an ounce of charisma and personality. He's the only one who hits hard and will go in for the kill when he has a hurt opponent.

The reason people like him so much, is because he's the anti-eastern European heavyweight! He's the opposite of all the things which have made the heavyweight title, once the most prestigious title in any sport around the world, something which goes completely unmentioned. You may not like him being brash and loud, but that's essentially what people want to see.

The fact that people do buy into him, want to see his fights and want to see him beat both Klitschko's isn't about ignorance. These people aren't ignorant about the sport, they are just thankful that at long last, there's a heavyweight who you can actually talk about. Whether it's good or bad, you can talk about David Haye and that's a good thing. Without him, you'd just have Klitschko's defeating outclassed opponents in from of 50,000 biased German fans whilst doing nothing for the sport.

As much as I like Wlad, he isn't good for boxing right now. Maybe he would be in the future and I think he would be in the past, but the heavyweight division has fallen so much, it was in dire need of a saviour. Whether you think that Haye is the man for that or not is irrelevant - The fact he was chosen by the fans, is a sign that, around the world, people are sick of the boring monopolization of the heavyweight division.

The next time you read people say "Haye's a joke, his fans are ignorant, he's an embarrassment" or whatever, think about it. If he is a "joke" or an "embarrassment" then what does it say about the other champions? They are the reason he's got every bit of publicity. As bad as you may think Haye is, people care.

Love him or hate him, it doesn't matter. Those polarized opinions are better for boxing than the apathy that the Klitschko's bring.

Good read mate and very true! I dont agree with what Haye does when it come down to these contracts etc but as a fighter he brings excitement to every fight! He is fast, bangs hard but has been put on his arse a few times which makes it interesting!

    Superb post, Jack. Completely agree.

I personally followed him from the amateurs and was hooked on the obvious skills he had coupled with the speed and power.

As for the sport, the Heavyweight division has always been my main focal point and when I got into boxing, I read up on past fighters. I was around for the Tyson boom years, followed by the Holyfield vs Bowe wars and the Lennox Lewis reign - All great stuff. But the later part of the last decade the division has been in the doldrums and I just don't find the Klitschkos watchable. I've seen fights of most Heavyweights in history but Wladimir, I just don't want to watch him fight. Hes a good fighter and been a credit as a champion but he is dull to watch.

Haye brings some optimism that things can change, that after many worthless US pretenders like Thompson, Brock etc we might have a man that can beat Wladimir. During the Lennox years you had contenders who could fight and entertain now its all drab.

All that said both sides frustrate the hell out of me by not getting the fight on.

    Haye's definitely the following:

    - Most exciting HW.
    - One of the most talented HWs.
    - One of the biggest punchers.
    - A much needed fighter in the division.

But in the end, all that makes it even more disappointing when you look at his exploits of the past few years, and his plans to retire in 10/11 months time.

I would agree to the "Haye is the anti-thesis to the Klitschkos" if he boxed high quality opponents, regularly produced memorable fights and overall generated interest in boxing from fans worldwide. The answer is "No" on all three counts.

Whatever Haye criticized about the Klitschkos, all the things he promised he will do better than them when he conquers the HW division... all those promises were a sham.

He hand-picks the same (or worse) opponents than the Klits and just like them is unable to produce memorable fights at HW. He has done nothing for the heavyweight scene other than get expectations amped up and then let millions of boxing fans confused and disappointed.

After almost 30 months of talking his credit with fans (outside of the UK) has run out a good while ago. You can only promise so much while delivering the opposite. Nobody needs Haye. Good riddance, bon voyage, nobody (outside of the UK) will even notice when he retires.

I think you kind of took the bit where he said 'make what you will of his resume so far', bent it over and forced your dick inside it's anus.

The thread is clearly talking about why fans ORIGINALLY brought into Haye, yet you choose to have another discussion about his record. We get it, his record and inactivity are awful - but seriously - what part of the post that Jack made actually prompted you to emit more of the same drivel you write in every thread?

Just because he looks like a clown when he fights, doesn't mean he's skilled or exciting. Just watch his fights against Valuev and Fraudley to see how utterly boring and cowardly he can be.

I can't stand the Klitschko fans, honestly. Their bull**** spurs me on! But I hope it doesn't come across like I hate either Klitschko and this is all bias. I'm not a fan of Vitali at all, no, but I don't dislike him. I am a big fan of Wlad's though.

Yeah, I agree with this. I think Haye could do wonders for the sport if he beat both Klitschko's and stuck around. All this talk of retirement? Honestly, I respect guys who do step out at the right time but I think Haye can doa lot for the sport, so I wouldn't be too happy. I don't think it is the right time for Haye to bow out yet.

Yeah, that was a pretty pointless post from him. Same as the guy who posted Haye getting knocked down as an amateur. Who cares?

    Just utterly pointless.
