The clip above is apparently only a snippet of a bigger video project - looking forward to seeing the full show.

    Q&A with Wale Omotoso

    by Ray Wheatley–World of Boxing - Jan 31st 2011

World welterweight contender Wale “Lucky Boy” Omotoso (18-0, 16 KOs) is originally from Nigeria but has been based in Australia for several years where he turned professional under the expert guidance of Murray Thomson.

IBF #12 Omotoso talks to Fightnews about his best wins over Tough American Emanuel Augustus and world rated Samuel Colomban and how his idol in boxing is the great Nigerian former world champion Dick Tiger and how he knows he will be world champion soon under manager and trainer Murray Thomson.

Can you tell me your amateur boxing record and the titles you won?

I had 48 amateur fights and only lost one. I was an all African champion. One of my toughest fight was with King Davison who currently lives and is boxing in Australia.

Australian boxing promoter and trainer Murray Thomson has managed and trained you for all your professional bouts. Can you tell me about your relationship with Murray?

Murray Thomson brought me to Australia and I have had all my professional fights with him. I respect Murray very much as a good man who has guided me to become a world rated welterweight boxer. Murray was a champion of Australia as amateur and he is the best trainer in this country. Together we will win the world championship.

The biggest name on your record is Emanuel Augustus who you stopped in nine rounds in 2009. Please tell me about this fight.

Emanuel Augustus is the best boxer I have been in the ring with. When we boxed he showed me many tricks but I knew I would eventually stop him. I just broke him down and stopped him in nine rounds, the same round Floyd Mayweather stopped him. He gave Floyd a tough fight also and many other outstanding junior welterweights including Mickey Ward.

You easily outpointed world rated welterweight Samuel Colomban who is originally from Cameroon but has been based in Australia for several years. One judge had you winning 100-89. Tell me about that fight.

Samuel Colomban was a easy fight for me. I won eight of the ten rounds in that fight. It is good to see he is world rated also. I had a good time the night I beat Colomban, I really enjoyed myself.

The IBF welterweight champion is Jan Zaveck. Have you seen Zaveck fight on tape and would you be confident of victory?

I am focused on winning the world IBF title from champion Jan Zaveck. I have seen him box on YouTube and I am confident I will defeat him when I get my opportunity. He is a short aggressive boxer who will be good for my style and I am sure I will stop him inside twelve rounds. Jan Zaveck, I am coming after you.

The greatest Nigerian boxer of all time is Dick Tiger who came to the USA and beat Gene Fullmer, Joey Giardello and Jose Torres in world title fights. What do you know about your countryman Dick Tiger?

Dick Tiger is my idol. I know the history of Dick Tiger. He is the greatest Nigerian boxer of all time who went to America and won world titles as a middleweight against Gene Fullmer and also won the light heavyweight title by defeating Jose Torres.

Unfortunately he died at a very young age. Dick Tiger is a legend in boxing and it is my wish to follow in his footsteps. I know I will be a world champion soon with Murray Thomson in my corner.
