If only Edwin Valero was alive, he'd be steamrolling these fighters at 135/140...

The only way Valero would clean up 135 and 140 is with a knife.

    right

Bradley would have snatched that 0 and sent him back to 135.... Khan would have outboxed him, and Maidana would have outslugged him.

I liked Valero, but the quality of his opposition wasn't great and you have to question his mentality when he can kill his wife like that and then take his own life. How would he stand up when put under pressure at the top level? He probably would've folded.

. . . like I said you can stop dreaming. De Marco is not in the level of Khan, Alexander and Bradley. Wake up!

He looked pretty calm, cool, and collected after suffering a gigantic cut on his forehead in the middle of his fight with DeMarco. Pacquiao suffered under similar conditions against Agapito Sanchez, except unlike Valero, Pacquiao didn't want to continue. :yep

And now valero is getting the classic nostalgia treatment.
I can hardly imagine what its going to be like when pac and pbf retire they'll be treated like boxing gods. Floyd as the best defensive fighter ever and Pacquiao as the best offensive fighter ever. Shiva and Ifrit.

He did ok; he easily-destroyed the highly-rated Antonio DeMarco in his backyard (who I also believe was ranked 5 or 6 in the LW rankings at the time), and also destroyed Antonio Pitalua who was the closest thing to a linear LW champion (Valero > Pitalua > Santa Cruz who was robbed of a decision against linear champ Casamayor).

I wouldn't go as far to say he'd steamroll the division but I think he proved he could mix it with good fighters albeit maybe not the elite.

History repeats itself which is why in forums current boxers will never defeat past greats in fantasy matchups.

It's human nature to romantasize how great a fighter was and gloss over his flaws; they become faster, stronger, iron-chinned or whatever with each passing decade.

Valero was just as slow and raw as Maidana. Valero-Maidana was one of the fights I was hoping would happen, actually. I would've picked Maidana to win by KO.

Valero was not that fast, was sloppy as ****, an awful finisher, and his power was overrated. He was also untested against Elite-level opposition (Mosquera, Pitalua and DeMarco are not that) and would've got starched by the likes of Katsidis and Soto, let alone Marquez and Pac.

Was he or was he not essentially a left-handed Maidana? I don't mean that as an insult either, I love how Maidana fights.

  15. I'm curious, what Valero fights have you actually watched?

I mean, if you're calling Valero a southpaw Maidana, I think it can only stem from you glossing over their records on boxrec and deducing that they both hit hard.

If we're talking in terms of human physiology, Valero has a lot more fast-twitch muscle fibers than Maidana. It's quite obvious on tape that Valero has both faster feet and hands, and there really is no comparison to be honest. You can criticize Valero's quality of opponents, but to state that Valero was as slow as Maidana is just patently untrue.
