This is my first thread on Eastside Boxing and I'm hoping it will be a good topic for discussion.

As we know Pacquiao will be taking on Mosley this year, however, for some fight fans the Marquez vs. Pacquiao debate still burns very bright.

The reason I have chosen this topic to discuss is because as a fight fan, I would have liked to see this fight as opposed to Pacquiao vs. Mosley. At the age of 37 Marquez is still displaying great skills and conditioning, his performance against Katsidis was good, solid and well executed. After the fight Marquez called out Pacquiao, as he has done for the last few years.

Now, the reasons I hear the fight wasn't made is because of the following reasons:

    1. Marquez wanted far to much money and priced himself out of the fight.

    2. The fight wouldn't do the numbers

    3. No one really wants to see it

Those were the three main reasons I came across, I could go along with the first one as I know that Marquez's camp have made some very questionable managerial decisions in the past, but the last two I'm not so sure about, as I stated from the outset, here's one fan that would be very excited about this fight.

So I ask you the fight fans, what's your view, do you think the fight would do the numbers and would you like to see it, and finally what would be the outcome.

I look forward to your views and as we go along I will give you my take also.

    LET THE DISCUSSION BEGIN.

Put everything aside, money, ego, legacy. Why not??

Dont matter if Marquez, wants money, wants to get KO'd, or try to beat Manny, atleast he deserves the shot way more than Mosley.

It would sell around 1M-1.2M. Cinco de Mayo weekend.

3rd in line, after Berto and the winner of Bradley-Alexander.

....and if Pac fights him, it should be at 135 or at 147.

I don't. Honestly, I just don't see what Pac stands to gain from this fight. He already fought a prime Marquez twice. Let's say he fights this version of Marquez at 147 and dominates him, will Pac really get credit? You think people will say "Well Marquez was lucky the first two times." or "Pac was not in his prime yet". Or will they say "Marquez is past his best and too small for Pac now."

For me, Pac vs Mosley or Pac vs Marquez, same crap

give me Pac vs Martinez, or Pac vs Berto as a second choice.

I'd rather watch Pac vs. Berto or a Pac vs. T. Bradley.

I only want it in the sense that Marquez deserves it. I think Pac gives JMM his first KO loss and it won't be even close prior to that moment. My other reasons are the lack of viable opponents for Pac where we can truly say he has a chance to lose. Because at this stage, only Floyd, Sergio Martinez, and 154-160 + opponents have a shot at beating Pac IMO.

Way better than Mosely, Clottey and Margo that's for sure but I'd rather see Pac vs Bradley vs Alexander winner or vs Berto....obviously Mayweather would be choice #1

Thanks for the posts, I agree in that I would much rather see Bradley vs. Pacquiao, however, I'm of the opinion that Marquez deserves more of a shot at Pacquiao than Mosley. I'm a big fan of both Pacquiao and Marquez, but I have to agree that IF they were to meet a third time, I believe that Pacquiao would win by TKO.

You're right, Pacquiao will get zero credit if he beats Marquez at 147 lbs......
.....he will get very little credit if he beats Marquez at 140 lbs.......

.....but be honest with yourself here, its Pacquiao that put himself in that position.

The fans have been calling for a third fight for a long time, and its Pacquiao who's been holding it up.......

......holding it up so much that Marquez will be near 40 years old if and when he gets another crack.

The way I see it, at 140 lbs Marquez may still very well be capable of beating Pacquiao for a third time......and he would be doing it by getting a "free" crack at it.
....by "free" I mean that if Marquez would to lose or even look bad in doing so, the "old" or "shot" as the fans like to put it, is very much a rightful excuse that Marquez' legacy in such an event does'nt take a hit.

.......thats the position that Pacquiao has put himself in though.
When all is said and done and the historians study up on Pacquiao's resume.....there are going to see a list of Pacquiao's opponents either being old and on the very downside of their careers and they will also see a list of "name" opponents who were coming off of losing to lesser fighters.

The more Pacquiao waits and lets Marquez get older, the less credit he gets.......

......or he can do what you're suggesting PH|LLA, not fight Marquez at all......and in such a scenario, in the event that Pacquiao gets soundly beaten by Mayweather or does'nt even fight Mayweather at all.......Pacquiao will have to live with the criticism of not giving a fighter (JMM) who most ring experts thought beat him, the third opportunity.

Pacquiao's legacy my friend is not on solid foundation......No Mayweather, embarrassing PED defense, avoidance of Marquez who the majority including the Pinoy own broadcast team thought beat Pacquiao...........

There will be some gaps in Pacquiao's resume that years down the line he's going to have a hard time answering too.
Bottom line, Pacquiao put himself in that position.

Of course the great jmm deserves it. He got off his rump 4 times when manny couldn't keep him down and proceeded to give manny the schooling of his lifetime. Manny is great but he never beat jmm. Cmon who you trying to fool the fight fans want to see other than a mayweather or martinez fight is a marquez fight. Acouple of *******s here acting like they never heard of a trilogy. They give one to morales yet they don't want another one with jmm. And now that they might it won't be at 140 but 147! when in the hell have either fought at 147? Pathetic.

Hey Caneman, thanks for joining in, I agree with you, Martinez and 154 - 160+ guys are just far to big for Pacquiao, very breifly, IF all elements are 'fair' i.e. level playing field and no consestions, then I believe Pacquiao would beat Mayweather, even though Mayweather is a big Welterweight.

Another thought, IF Marquez vs. Pacquiao 3 were ever to happen, Freddie Roach would want it at 147, even though I don't believe Pacquiao has ever actually weighed 147 at a weigh in. I would urge Marquez's camp to do the same, weigh in at around 139 so come fight night they would both weigh around the same, neither at an actual 147 (this is something that is wrong in Boxing) infact I would say that Marquez come in lighter than Pacquiao to retain his speed and agility. IF Marquez comes in heavier, it will be a similiar situtaion as when he fought Mayweather, but Pacquiao would win by TKO
