At this point with Pavlik being out of the game for a while, guys like Bika & Andrade are all wrong for Kelly in a first fight coming back... Those guys are really big, strong and relentless. Not good for a first fight... If I'm his manager, I give him a true confidence builder such as fighting Zuniga again but at 168lbs, a guy he's already knocked out before !!
noob watch williams' approach to martinez before he got knocked out. pavlik would leave williams slumped in a corner. you can't come at pavlik with your hands at your side as you throw like williams did. i like williams but a pavlik fight is the last thing he needs.
If it's at 168, then I'd like to see him fight Andrade before taking on someone like Bute. That's a very winnable fight for KP, imo. I'd favor Pav to win against Andrade ...if Pav's still got anything left. I think he does have something left, so I pick Pavlik-Andrade. :bbb At 175, if he can fill out at that weight, then I could see him facing Tavoris Cloud someday. Cloud is a come forward guy who has the style that KP matches up very well against. If he can settle into that weight class well, then I could really see that fight coming off down the road. The question is, who does he fight to test the waters at '75 first though? :think
green would be my pick for his comeback; both a common name at 168 and he would present kelly with a some challenge too.
Rodriguez is a hype job. Brinkley , Bika , Sartison , Miranda, Stieglitz are better fights and fights he can win. I would even prefer Marcus Johnson 20-0(15 KO's) or Maxim Vlasov 19-0(10 KO's) over Rodriguez.
If he can make 160, I say him vs williams. A crossroads fight for both fighters. But also at 160 you have sturm and the untested pirog. At 168 he has some gone options, andrade, bika or maybe even stieglitz. If he really wants to come back with a bang, I say he goes straight for bute, but that could be asking too much of him. Of personal interest would be him vs de gale but I don't know if the us would buy into it.
He won't. His people made it public he's not coming back at 160. I can see a Bute fight happening in the fall if Kessler-Bute doesn't get made for whatever ****in reason, but he needs to fight a southpaw first. That's Mendy, right there. Mendy is #1 @ IBF (Bute's belt) due to Bika getting DQ'ed in an eliminator, and Mendy is #3 @ WBO (Stieg's belt) so gives Kelly two options to go after when he's done battering him. Mendy makes all the sense in the world to me, where as Andrade-Pavlik would certainly be a crowd-pleaser fight. :bbb
This will be Kelly's first fight above 160 in two and a half years. It will be his first fight of any kind in over a year. He lost his last fight, and just spent two months at the Betty Ford Center. I doubt if they'll hook him up with anyone as tough as Andrade or Bika. Maybe Vera will upset Mora, and get the pay day he was suppose to get.
A Mendy type of fighter would be ok but if I was Mendy's promoter, I would not spoil his chance to get a title. Bute may drop his belt if the IBF gets in his way of getting a big fight.
Does the IBF give something like one year for a mandatory defence to be made? Mendy was appointed Bute's mando in July, so that's right in the Showtime fight #2 ballpark for Bute. I would certainly hope Bute fights Stieglitz or Sartison for a so-called world title than see him annihilate Mendy in 4 rounds for an IBF defence. Both have ducked Bute, but maybe the money can be ridiculously good the next time. :hey Edit: .......and Pavlik to co-feature on SHO in a fight vs the other (Stieg/Sarts) champ.
