Seems Holyfield will only retire when he's carried out on a stretcher

Make no mistake, this deluded and arrogant old man is not driven by passion for the sport, and if he is then we can safely assume he has lost his sanity a long time ago. No, he's not boxing for the love of boxing but simply because he's broke, has no other form of income, no savings and probably lots of debt.

It is obvious he will only accept his inevitable retirement once he's carried out on a stretcher. Maybe only then he will accept it's game over and it's time to hang up the gloves.

I seriously hope he won't sustain any physical damage in the process. I wish it wouldn't take the loss of eyesight or serious brain damage for a boxer to finally quit. But in the case of this misguided and fanatic nutcase I fear it may be the outcome he's asking for.

What is Evander hoping for? That we feel sorry for him? That we wish him well on his quest for self-destruction? I feel no sympathy for a man willfully mutilating himself.

The man is under a mountain of debt.

What's worse is that he instigates most of the headbutts in his fights.

Well if you're agreeing that he's broke and needs to fight for cash, then wtf do you want him to do? Live out on the streets? Wtf else do you think an ex boxer can do for money, teach at universities or program software for hospitals?

I swear I ****ing hate fans who ***** about a fighter fighting past their best. No one is forcing you to watch it. Who the hell are you to tell an ATG legend what they can and can't do in the ring?

Yeah there's something admirable about the way he won't call it a day but at the same time it's tragic. This man's resume is glorious and fights like these are lounge acts compared to where he once stood.

I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of years ago and he looked terrific but his dulled reflexes make him easy pickings for even the least talented of opponents.

Money is an issue but I wouldn't like to see him get permanently hurt chasing it!

    1. Holyfield made over $250 million in lifetime earnings delivering great fights to millions of fans around the world. Where is all this money? Evander was a complete fool for burning through all this money through negligence and naivety and deserves no compassion for wasting his millions. It's his own fault and shouldn't be used as an excuse for ripping off people today with disgraceful fights while risking his health.

    2. My point is that he is so deluded that one can only hope a non-lethal injury to his knee or shoulder will stop him. I hope it won't take a more serious "wake-up call". It seems age and ring-rust alone are not enough to stop him.

    3. The idiotic fans buying these disgraceful Holyfield PPVs and going to the live events are partly to blame. They give Holyfield a glimmer of hope that he's still got it and people still want to see him. People are stupid and borderline careless handing this old fool a mercy financial motivation to continue getting in the ring.

Holyfield's fights have generated over $550 million in PPV revenue, second most ever after De La Hoya. He should have made hundreds of millions of dollars from boxing, including the 30 odd million he was paid for the Tyson rematch. If he is indeed in financial difficulties as reported, he'd be up there as one of boxing's biggest fools.

He loves God and wants to go back to him. Almost as spiritual as the Jain monks who fast to death to get liberated from this earthly existence.
