It depends who wins for me, if its Werdum then theres a good(if not definitive) case for him being #1 but Overeem would still need to beat the Fedor/Bigfoot winner to take that spot for me.

Yea, he is probably well behind Gugenishvilli, right?

It will be a very different fight from their first. But "a hope in hell" ? Werdum is a VERY live underdog.

  4. Are you kidding me? You actually think Cain should be number one?

What's with the constant sarcasm you now spew on every post?

Monarco's right. What has Cain done to deserve a top 3 spot? He or JDS are 5th best in the world - behind those 3 and Barnett - and that's almost entirely based on how damn good they are and overlooking their inexperience and small resumes

You ask what Cain has done, then you say he is behind Barnett? Barnett hasn't had a relevant fight since Nog, which he lost.

Your saying a guy with 9 fights, who's best win is against a guy who had a total of 5 MMA fights deserves to be ranked higher than a guy with 3 times as many wins as Cain has fights?

Barnett also holds a win over Nog, back when that actually meant something

I am not sure there is a Heavyweight in the World today that could beat Overeem right now. He is in the zone it seems.

Meh. Hughes has more wins than Fitch has fights too. Hughes has a win over GSP, and it meant something.

    Current activity matters.

    Overeem is not infallable.

His confidence and sharpness should be there though - He's been busy which always bodes well - Has Werdum fought since beating Fey-uh-dor?

Is this a current ranking or an all time one? Your comment about Nog proves that a lot changes between when Barnett was last relevant and now; It is 2011, Barnett has not been fighting anybody that would place him anywhere near Cain since Nog, who beat him.

You can't just forever judge fighters based on 2005. Cain has torn through very good fighters en route to his winning the UFC HW belt, this is going to put any fighter near the top.

Barnett really doesn't deserve to be highly ranked at the moment. If he is, then so is Sylvia.

Very good perspective to keep in mind. While we know how good Overeems standup is, we have not seen him fight off his back in a long time. That being said, I don't think Overeem would want to follow Werdum to the ground, and I'm not so sure Werdum will ever again have an easy time drawing guys into his guard given his reputation for being so dangerous, and refined off his back.

Not that I'm counting him out, but it's not an easy thing to imagine him taking Overeem down if thats not where Overeem wants to go..

Taking Overeem down may prove to be a mountain of a task in and of itself. But, stranger things have happened. :D

I expect Overeem to force a standup fight and have his way rather easily. If Werdum gets Overeem down, especially if he manages to get Overeem on his back, I'll be especially surprised if Overeem lasts more than a minute.

That was Overeem's strategy in the first fight. Didnt work then.....
