Anderson-GSP would be much more competitive than Anderson-Shogun would be IMO.

    Anderson-GSP would be a protracted, high-level skill match-up.

Shogun would obliterate Anderson. He holds far too much power and muscle there for Silva. Silva would not hurt Shogun, Shogun would devastate Silva.

"Georges St-Pierre said he would move to 185 (to fight Silva) and stay at that weight"

Brave guy indeed. Easy win for Silva. Just as good, way bigger. Not a fair match. Catchweight would be a lot fairer, but last thing MMA needs is to go down the Pacquiao route

Shogun Silva is the fight that needs to happen, thats if Shogun's legs are still able to function

People way, way overstate the size advantage for Silva.

St. Pierre is already over 195Ibs. Silva is at most 220Ibs.

St. Pierre's reach is only two inches less than Silva's.

Silva has a four inch height advantage.

So yeah Silva is the bigger man but its not anything like Penn/St. Pierre. St. Pierre is already comfortably above the middleweight limit whilst carrying little body fat, Penn looked very soft trying to bulk up to 170 a weight that he simply cannot reach whilst staying in shape. Whereas Silva's weight advantage is diminished by being tall, St. Pierre was barely taller than Penn which meant that his weight advantage came from having a naturally large and more powerful frame. Plus he was able to strike from distance due to a large reach advantage.

Silva has shown two weakness in his middleweight title reign; conditioning and poor takedown defense. St. Pierre would be perfectly positioned to exploit either weakness. If Silva was able to overcome someone who was such a bad stylistic matchup for him then it would truly cement his legacy as a pound for pound great. Given the lack of a dominant champion for him to face at light heavyweight I can't think of a single match that does more for his legacy than GSP.

I personally don't think 5 pounds either way would change the outcome. The real issue is whether or not the fight is standing up or goes to the ground. GSP has absoltely no change of winning a stand up contest against Anderson Silva, so it has to go to the ground for him to have any chance whatsover. If that happens it would be interesting.

Dan The Beast Henderson could do NADDA ZILCH ZERO to Anderson on the ground

Sonnen had him on his back for over 20 minutes and hardly landed anything significant

What makes anyone think a much smaller GSP could do anything?

And when has Anderson's stamina ever been an issue? Coming in supposedly sick against a roided Sonnen and getting laid on and beaten up for over 20 minutes and still pulling a win says his stamina is Un Be Lievable

I disagree with this. Shogun is a tank of a lightheavy. I'm sure he weighed around 225-230 for some fights in Pride (the Coleman loss being one of them), and I assume he's not much less than that come fightnight after weighing in on 205 then rehydrating. Silva is tall but slender by comparison, if he even gets to 210-215 by fight time I'd be surprised.

:huh Hendo punched his head in for a round. That was a very dominant round for Henderson once he got the TD.

And GSP's sub defence is much better than Sonnen's.

Sort of want Belfort to win but sort of want Silva to win so GSP can fight him.

So you want to see Anderson get his arrogant ass beaten too! What makes you think GSP has a chance?

    GSP
Best takedown in the business. That will make him outstrike Silva in their fight for the little time on the feets.

Thiago Alves is a better striker. But it don't matter when you face someone who can set up the takedown so beautifully. Its why Sonnen hold his own standing.

GSP has great top control, and Silva isnt really good at getting up

Sonnen was able to do so in at least 50 percent of the exchange on their feets.

GSP is a better striker. And a better takedown artist.

Silva is a better striker than GSP, but GSP is more complete, so Silva will always have a thought for GSP's takedown

Belfort was probably my first love in MMA. The Silva highlight rocks my world and who better to make me transition from boxing to MMA.

Nevertheless, GSP is a strategic fighter with great grappling and Silva isn't invincible in grappling. GSP will also fight a more complete fight - he'll work the legs, mix striking with wrestling etc He can switch gears alot.

Durability and size are big problems for GSP vs Silva but he who dares.

Lets see if Silva can survive the fistic fury of Belfort first! If he thought Sonnen caught him with a good southpaw left then wait for Vitor!
