Sugar Ray Robinson Vs Marvin Hagler

robinson was a ww(145pounds) when he faced lamotta in the second fight, and this version of robinson would beat hagler anyday of the week, so yes.

 

Robinson takes a clear UD in a fun fight. He's a step above.

 

I have to consider Marvin's first go with Vito and his bout against Duran in deciding in Robby's favor here. Theres much more, but its part of it too.

 

Who cares , put the winner in with Monzon and watch them loose.

 

Hagler is as good as it gets at middleweight, though I pick Robinson

 

I think he's a shade below Robinson and Monzon at their best. I'd always back both over him. Hence the "step above" comment.

 

Sugar Ray Robinson, quicker hands, and movement would frustrate Marvin.
Many close rounds here, with the Marvin coming on in Rounds 4 thru 8.

Robinson could probably steal a round or two with his superior boxing skills.
And resting on the ropes, before pecking away over the last 2 rounds.

 

monzon would not beat hagler ,hes extremely overrated

 

Carlos may be a touch over-rated,,,,,,but at age 34/35, he handled
Rodrigo Valdez not once, but twice.

And Rodrigo hit harder than Marvin Hagler,,,,,,,,,,,,,see Bennie Briscoe.

 

For me this is a case of the best ever WW (and an all-time great MW) vs. the best ever MW. Robinson certainly has the speed and firepower to make this a hell of a fight. Given this, I'll still take Hagler. When Marvin really wanted to take somebody out, he could do it, he had all the tools. I don't rule out a points win for SRR, but I believe Hagler at his very best would take Ray out. Once again, it's a natural WW/great MW going up to 160 against the ultimate MW.

 

So close,and so many imponderables to make a firm decision. There would have been a series of bouits,no doubt.

 

But still, the ones that were most succesful against Robinson seemed to bull him. The two who beat him before his first retirement were both physically stronger. And LaMotta had enough success with his pressure approach to make five of the fights quite close. Hagler was faster and more skilled than LaMotta and had superior punching power as well I'd say...

Why wouldn't he do what LaMotta did once and seems to have come quite close to doing another four times?

 

Jakes straight ahead forward-moving style would always present problems for Sugar Ray.

Marvin boxed more, which would allow Sugar Ray Robisnon to stay at a distance.

It's close, with many even Rounds. Nothing wrong with scoring 6 rounds even here.

 

Lamotta never troubled Robinson.
