I agree with Mccloskey teams approach to this, yes their offer is more than he's ever earned.. but that has nothing to do it. It would be like if in your industry of work you usually agree to work on getting 20% commission.. however a new client on a lucrative contract you begin talks with says "well I'm not happy with this 20%, as it's such a lucrative project, you'll be getting too much money at that percentage" It's outrageous.. it's not like it cuts into TK's money,it's a percentage still the same. TK are claiming it doesn't add up at there is not enough money... well i'm afraid if the sums don't add up for him to get 20% in this bout.. then it must be a miracle that countless other bouts manage to take place for those percentages with far lower total purses. It is just greed from the Khan's. TK are not going to find a single 'legitimate' opponent willing to take what they are offering..
**** it, even I'm gettin sick of all this prolonged bull****, (and I really want to see this fight!) let Khan fight Prescott if theyre going to be that stingy...hes the only boxer I know of that'll fight Khan for free.
Do you both realise that McCloskey has been given a SECOND offer? Geez, you guys don't even know how much was offered yet you're assuming Khan is the one being stingy. The first offer was 3x his previous pay-day. The second one was higher! Now figure out who's trying to milk who.
According to the press, wasn't the second offer not an actual sum, but a potential bonus given PPV sells. Lazarus, you are being blinded here by your fan'ness... read what I write here, if this doesn't explain it to you, then I'm either terrible at explaining things, are you are too far gone! Either are possible! The problem here is... Amir Khan is a big name. As such.. the revenues in comparison to his peers are high. Hence why he makes 1 million+ for his fights.. as opposed to other fighters at his level taking half that. All because in the UK due to his exposure he is a large name and there is more broadcaster money on the table. With that you would agree right? Ok, now let's for argument sake imagine this isn't Khan, it's Mccloskey against a fictional LWW champion called Ted. The figures and percentages here are from an actual bout of this calibre. It's on PPV in the UK, the purse is $500K dollars (£317K). Which unless either are superstars is a pretty reasonable and average purse, especially for the UK... Mccloskey is getting 20% of the purse. Just over £60K. The champion taking the remaining £257K. Ok.. nobody has any problems with that..nobody is exploiting or 'milking' anyone. Now lets factor in Amir Khan. He generates larger pots. I'll try and construct a figure... HBO is airing the fight on tape delay, although I can't recall the actual sum, it won't be the same as the $750K offered for the Maidana tape delay, however to be generous let's say $450k, and lets assume Sky do a pretty reasonable 125K buys. That's a purse of £625K from SKY, and arond £300K from HBO.. so a total purse of £925K, perhaps even a million with gate receipts going towards staging costs. Mccloskey's team would like there 20%+ ( I assume they are asking for 25% by the statements in the press) . He isn't a journeyman, doing a half day at his day job at the butchers on the day before, before going to the weigh in. He's euro champ. As such he's going to request that much. There isn't anyone who isn't an acceptable opponent that will take much less than that. Just because he earned far less last time is irrelevant. There is a bigger pot on the table. Granted it wouldn't be there if it wasnt for Khan, but thats just how it is. Wouldn't you agree? I don't know for sure but I'd hazard a guess that TK has offered them 180K, and Mccloskeys people want 250-300K. Which isn't outlandish. At 25% - That's 250K for Mccloskey, 750K for Khan. He's hardly going poor! on another note: Team Khan have said today Maidana asked for too much.. and eventually took our second offer. As a means of demonstrating Mccloskey should do the same. The difference is Maidana initially wanted 40% of 1.4million. As was technically his right by the WBA rules as interim champion. In the end he settled for less, however that final sum of 500k or whatever it was was well in excess of 20%. So the news story is a bit misleading really.
any figures available? if we know what's been offered we can make a call on this and decide which side is to blame....

I'll be really disappointed if this doesn't come off but I'm hopeful it will seeing as it's been ongoing for so long now, both camps are obviously hungry for it. Just on the issue of McCloskey's last fight and his payday - the bout took place in Letterkenny, a small town in a very rural part of Ireland called Donegal. I'd wager that it was only the third or fouth professional show to ever take place in Donegal. Even by Ulster provincial standards it would be considered a small venue. McCloskey has filled the Kings Hall in Belfast and his last fight would have been a relatively small pay day compared to other fights he's had. The "3 times his last payday" mantra is probably factually correct bus is essentially misleading.
I don't see the relevance of what Khan is making in this fight!! Khan is a high profile fighter because of his own achievements. Has McCloskey helped Khan get his fame?Has he made him any bigger in the UK or the US? The answer is no!!! The bitter truth is McCloskey is a stay busy fight and it would be better for him if he keeps his attitude that way and stop trying to price himself out as if he is a very well known fighter coz he is gonna lose his chance and a world title which may be his only chance. You can't look at what Khan is making because that is totally irrelevant. He attracts the crowd not McCloskey! When there is a Khan fight then over 90% support Khan or at least come to watch Khan that says it all. It's all about the fighters personal value and McCloskey has to face the fact that at the moment he isn't worth as much as he is asking for!!!
For the first time round when they refused, did McCloskey's side ever reveal the exact number that was offered them?
Nope. I think the only indicator we've been given was Khan's camp saying that it was 3 times what McCloskey got for fighting Barry Morrison
