There is a legend that Darcy and Fulton engaged in a super secret sparring match that nobody was allowed into except Tex Rickard and a couple of his people and Darcy's entourage and during this sparring session Darcy made the 6'6" 220 pound Fred Fulton, who at that point was being considered Willards top challenger and within a years time would stop both Sam Langford and Gunboat Smith, quit. It could have happened but before I chalk it up as a FACT id have to see at least one eye witness account of the fight that wasnt interested in building Darcy up as the biggest promotional piece in the United States at that point. Its a great story but as weve seen a TON of boxings great stories are far more fiction than fact. Fulton stood a foot taller than Darcy, outweighed him by 30 to 40 pounds (and thats when Darcy was fat and out of shape), sported a nearly 14 inch reach advantage, and packed a massive punch. He had a relatively weak beard but we arent talking about a legitimate HW puncher here and frankly plenty of guys went the distance with or lasted long enough with Darcy to suggest he wasnt a Tysonesque one punch fighter. Its pretty hard to fathom him stopping Fulton in a sparring session or anywhere else. In fact its a pretty bad style matchup for Darcy IMO.
You really are one soft little lady Klompy. How old are you, seriously?? 25?? 30?? You have a lack of ability to accept being wrong. You have looked a fool in this thread; every lame attempt to diminish what Dacry had acheived to the end has failed. Favourtisms, home town cooking, strange land etc etc.. yet there is a total fail from you in responding to a single thing I've thrown back. You even belittle Darcy belting Fulton, as being a 'Rickard P.R' exercise, just as you claim every ounce of media at Stadiums bouts were hired by Hugh McIntosh. It must really bug you that Dacry toyed with Chip before knocking him senseless. It must really bug you that Chip had beaten Greb just weeks before. Greb established quite a record, if fighting no-decision 10 rounders and having the poorest KO ratio in M/W history counts for anything. Not to mention the home town cooking that Greb constantly had. He hadn't spent months on a ship before he fought.... blah blah blah.. Oh, and the referee might have been related to someone familiar... maybe not :rofl:rofl:rofl If you like, I'll make an axcuse for why Greb was so bad, just as you fail to answer why Darcy was not so bad afterall. You failed Klomps. You spoilt little brat. :hi::hi::hi::hi::hi:
Well klompy, your opinion and imagination, as we've seen in this thread are quite absurd. Prove otherwise that Darcy did not stop Fulton.
Fulton's chin was reputed to be pure glass. Personally, I don't doubt that Darcy could stop him. I don't know for sure, but it's not an outrageous story by any means.
This content is protected This is the encounter that Klompy feels was a piece of 'pro Dacry' work by Rickard. Klompy also states that Darcy was out of shape???? Well Klompy, you clown, even dressed, Darcy looks trim. Again, another of your ludicrous comments has made you look quite an idiot. Fact is, Fulton quite after two rounds.
Thanks. I doubt Fulton was out of shape. I think it happened in February/March 1917, around the time Fulton was active with fights against Cowler, Weinert and Morris (Jan, Feb and Apr).
That same pic can be seen here, and at the bottom it merely says "Bout with his sparring partner". Can it be proven one way or another that it is, in fact, Fulton? On the site I got this from they mentioned the Fulton sparrings, and how Darcy handled him, but nothing was written of this little collage of photos aside from that the man in question was a sparring partner. The man in question is Jack Sims. He was an american LHW/HW journeyman who acted as Darcy's sparring partner. The picture in Police Gazette above purported by Sinn to be of Fulton and Darcy sits next to a photo of Darcy walking alongside his "trainer" this is also Jack Sims. I think Police Gazette would know to say its Fulton as they were very high on him and had only recently posted a very nice article and three excellent accompanying photos of his knockout over Charlie Weinert.
I dont have to prove otherwise. There is no proof that it happened. Its like saying that I should proove the lockness monster doesnt exist, or the tooth fairy isnt real. If you believe he fought Fulton and stopped him show me proof other than a photo of Darcy sparring with someone who clearly was not Fulton. For **** sakes man, Fulton was 6 foot 6, 220 pounds, and had BLONDE hair that wasnt nearly as close cropped as the dark haired short cropped Jack Sims who that photo is ACTUALLY of.
