There is a completely dissimilar build to both Fulton in sparring and Sims walking beside Dacry. Trick photography?????

 

hmm, this thread is at least informative on darcy. i always saw him as another ayala: myths and legends, but little substantied in documented fights. apparently there was more substance to him than i realized

 

I dont care what the photography looks like to you. That is a photo of Darcy sparring with Jack Sims in late February/early March of 1917 at Goshen, N.Y.. Anyone who wants to research Darcy and Jack Sims will find other photos of the two together, including sparring photos in which Sims can clearly be seen as a tall, lanky fighter who in no way resembled Fulton either in size or looks.

 

Claim what you will Klompy. You've still proven nothing...... right throughout this thread. You've also ignored everything that has been thrown back at you in Darcy's defence. You obviously hate accepting your mistakes.

 

Mistakes? Like getting my facts constantly mixed up or posting pictures to support my argument that arent even what I think they are? Kind of funny you trying to point out someones mistakes...

 

The probable reason for the DQ instead of the TKO was that Darcy finished the round. From what I gather after the low blow (or alleged low blow according to Smith) the action stopped, Darcy walked to his corner, and Smith stood off. The referee who did not see the low blow ordered both fighters to "fight on" and both resumed. After the round finished, Dave Smith was furious the referee did not acknowledge the low blow. When action was to resume, Smith threw the towel and refused to have Darcy come out. The referee touched Smith on the head indicating he won the fight, and ruled a disqualification because the corners weren't permitted to stop fights because the referee was the sole arbiter (according to the article). Dave Smith was furious and then showed the referee Darcy's dented protective cup. Yes, I presented the article because it stated BOTH sides of the story. Your beef with the outcome would be legitimate if the decision had been overturned in favor of Darcy. In the second fight between Smith and Darcy, Smith hit Darcy low once in the first round, was warned by the referee. Then it happened again in the second, and he was promptly disqualified. The reports say that Darcy conclusively won that first round, and was winning the second handily. Did Smith take the easy way that time?
No one is pretending anything about Chip being 'unbeatable' very tough, and very good. As you said, he beat a 'pre-prime' Greb..."One of the best" is a good assessment on George Chip. It should also be said that Buck Crouse stopped a very young George Chip, not a prime version. Al McCoy? A fluke. The only other stoppage was a legitimate beatdown by Darcy against a man who fought everyone hard in a very tough era. Chip earned his stripes against everyone...
Why on earth would anyone want to fight in Australia? To make it simple, Chip's manager problably told him about the fight...Chip problably said "How much" and then said "Let's go kick his ass"...It's all about the money. When he got into the ring he found he bit off more than he could chew...It wouldn't matter where this fight would have been held. Darcy would have beat him, and that's pretty conclusive. Bobby Sinn pointed out that Chip did want another go in Australia, and that Darcy had fought twenty rounds three weeks prior.

This is beyond a doubt, the fairest statement you've made in your assailment of Darcy, in this, and previous threads.

What of Buck Crouse.. he is supposed to have admitted to 'a fixed fight'?? Expand on that Klomps. Crouse was KO'd in 2. He fought like a petrified man against Dacry.

McGoorty openly admitted to another fixed fight.. Expand on that Klompy... McGoorty was put to sleep in 8.

Baker had a ringside path all to himself where he'd yell instructions to the ref.. Expand on that Klompy.. tell me a single documented instruction that altered any fight, in fact give me a single example throughout Snowy's tenure at Stadiums LTD that occurred as such.

Harold Baker FAVOURED Darcy.. again, **** for brains, explain how Baker FAVOURED Darcy in every fight, or in any single fight.

Tell me of the oppressive difficulties faced by Americans in Oz, due to refereeing... but tell me more about Griffo vs McAulliffe, and the RIDICULOUS decision made by Maxie Moore.

Tell me why Jeff Smith didn't recieve the title belt 'especially' made for Darcy after the first Dsq.... but then tell me why Griffo was not given undisuted WORLD recognition after smashing Torpedo Billy Murphy.

Name one Australian that 'stated' KO Brown had defeated Darcy.

Name one USA proposed bout that "Darcy himself" has turned down.

Harold Baker Dsq Darcy in the first Smith bout, yet you see that as FAVOURING Darcy?? How so?? An unfair decision in Smiths favour???

Expand on it how? Crouse stated until the day he died that he was paid to lay down against Darcy. Period end of story. I can provide actual quotes from the man if thats what you want but Im sure you will find some twisted way to bend that as well.

Yes, McGoorty openly admitted to taking a dive in their first fight. In fact before and after the bout he talked freely with americans and to american press agents that the bout had been pre-arranged for gambling purposes and to increase the sales of the motion picture rights. A quote of his, or a paraphrase, was that the now that the first bout was out of the way they could fight the second bout on the up and up. Even the SMH stated that hardly anyone took the bout seriously because McGoorty looked to all like he wasnt even trying and didnt shape anywhere near his previous form. These stories also reached the American newspapers by people who saw the fight and stated categorically, in addition to what McGoorty had already confirmed, that he several times he simply did not punch, and several other times he didnt even get out of the way of punches that he saw telegraphed.

Yes, Baker had a ringside path so that he could walk around the ring instructing his brother on how to officiate the fights. That is all documented in the court records. I dont have to show proof that it affected the outcome of fights one way or the other, because the simple fact that this was done, and accepted shows that all was not being handled on the up and up in Australia. Do you deny that a manager giving instructions to a referee and being allowed to do so openly is a less than sportsmenlike and disadvantageous way of running a boxing match, particularly when that ref is the managers brother, and the manager is managing the house fighter? Do you deny that?

If you score knockout over a fighter and only win on a DQ, which is a less satisfactory way of winning, less conclusive, and far more acceptable (for the loser) way to defeat an opponent than a KO or TKO which that fight clearly should have been to anyone who is either rational or has no attachment (emotional-you, or monetary-the Baker bros) to the losing fighter.

I already have, if you choose to ignore them thats up to you but I fail to see what Griffo has to do with Darcy. You always bring Griffo into these discussions and one has nothing to do with the other unless you somehow feel that Griffo's treatment in the USA gave Australians a blank check to treat Americans poorly, by which argument you are affirming everything Ive said. Do you seriously think I would condone Griffo being robbed in America against an American or anyone else? No. I wouldnt it. If he was robbed its as bull**** as what Im discussing here.

He didnt recieve the belt because it was already earmarked for Darcy and they were going to give it to him eventually anyway, which they did, via DQ which was disputed all the way to court. It wouldnt suit Stadiums LTDs coffers to set up a bogus world championship, seeing as how the real one rested in the USA, only to see an American win THAT championship as well and take it back to the USA also. Champions mean more tickets sold at higher prices and Darcy was earmarked as Stadiums LTDs "world champion" whether he deserved it or not. Once again, what the hell does Griffo have to do with anything we are discussing?

In their second fight Darcy was supposedly distracted by the illness of his mother and had a rough fight with Brown and was rocked several times in the later rounds. The decision was disputed by ringsiders, if I need to I'll dig up the reports, lets see yours.

Mike Gibbons. Theres one. Darcy demanded $45,000 to fight Gibbons, then raised it to $50,000, then decided he wanted to wait before facing Gibbons. Its a fact look it up.

Yes I would, and then I would like responses to all of the questions Ive posed and retractions for all of mistakes you have made on this post that have eroded your credibility.

 

"Intended" It mentions nothing of them ever actually sparring and that article is actually dated one month after the supposes sparring encounter took place.

Dempsey could not have been present at a supposed sparring match that took place between Fred Fulton and Les Darcy because he was boxing out west and living on the West Coast at the time. His movements during this period are well known and easily traced.

 

I believe that I'll take Dempsey's word over yours, klompton.
