Pac is a great fighter and very charismatic (his ring entrances make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up) but he still needs a career defining fight. Also I think he now lacks disipline and may get KOd in one of his next two fights especially if he goes up to lightweight
I don't believe Leonard even deserved the nod against a faded Hagler, but regardless, that doesn't lesson my opinion of SRL one bit! He was helluva fighter! :good
A lot of fighters have more than 4 names of Hall od Famers on list of guys they beat. Also, Leonard did not give rematchs esay when he won. Joe Louis had tough fight with Walcott he may have lost, he gave rematch right away, and ko' Walcott. Basillio fought Ray Robinson twice, Demarco twice, Fullmer at least once (a loss) and had 5 straight years where one of his fights wer eRing Magazine's Fight of the Year (Now that;s amazing) Monzon Ko'd Benvenutti twice, beat Emile Gritith, Benny Briscoe, and Rodrigo Valdez, and KO"d Jose Napoles. Those 5 names match up against the four in group Leonard fought.
That OLympic night was greatest ever for American boxing, maybe any ameteur boxing. I watched that night, it was one of most amazing sports nights I ever saw, any sport, since five times fights had to be won by Americans. Five Gold medel bouts, all exciting. Leonard was one of greatest ameteur champs/fighters ever.
one of my all time favorites, no doubt. leonard actually got me hooked on the sweet science in the first place, someone showed me his first title win against benitez on betamax cassette when i was a wee kid and ive been hooked ever since......
Yeah, its a hard top 4 to beat for any fighter of the modern era. Mclarnin's top 4 might top it all time. Ross, Leonard, Canzoneri, Ambers? (hard narrowing to 4)
