King was a handy fighter, he had also taken Jeff Smith version of the World M/W title. This being over 20 rounds during one of Jeff Smiths 9 ring battles in Oz (a counry he hated so much, with nothing in favour of the Americans???).

Mick King is another who 'stowed away' for the United States. He, like Darcy, had done so without a passport. He met up with Darcy in Memphis- actually engaging in his second fight in the USA on the eve of Darcy's death.... Mick King, a man having stowed away, without a passport, headed for the USA and engaged in 30+ fights.... without as much as a second glanse from ignorant, pointing fingers. :admin
I'd love to read that article Unforgiven.

    Cheers.

You've stated facts with your subjective reasoning intact. That Niland piece states the spar did occur between Darcy and Fulton. That spar is reported to be a private exhibition by Rickard, so information about would be slim and none. It is absolutely your right to consider it, or not.
Did you find anything in those films to support a biase in favor of Darcy? The films are brief in some instances, but surely there must be something there to support an arguement that foriegn fighters were treated unfairly? Reports do indeed vary, and not tell whole story at times. The films are tangible and available, key word being tangible.
George Chip would not have beaten Darcy in Australia, or Timbuktu, or wherever. It just was not close, it was a systematic beatdown.
Bottom line Darcy had a world of potential and his last fight he soundly defeated and stopped a fighter in George Chip who beat a pre-prime Greb, while being pre-prime himself...and that in essense cannot be demeaned, spun or devalued.

Well said DPW. Perhaps joining Klompenstein in a viewing of the Darcy footage will allow for both to observe closely the lack of referee, or external interferance, during any bout.

Both yourself ,and Klompton are very informed posters, but both of you appear to resent the other being as clued up as yourself ,and both of you mug yourselves by your personal attacks on each other, and your wives.
Can we keep the rivalry and badinage ,but lose the vitriolic spite that demeans the pair of you ?

We might be placing too much importance on this sparring session with Fulton.

    Lets say it happened.

Things a lot stranger than fiction have always taken place in sparring sessions. It is prety reliably documented that Charley Burley knocked Elmer Ray out cold amongst other things.

George Foreman, whilst in Oz for a 'Premier Sports' (PPV Network) told a story about one of his spars with Sonny Liston. A head shot had knocked off the headguard (off Foreman??).. I don't remember, as beers flowed that eveining..!!!! ..anyways, the trainer of either Foreman or Liston feared that the fighters head was still placed inside the dislodged headgear.

Agreed,Toxie Hall dropped Marciano in sparring,"it was a real good punch and dazed me a bit".
Hall had a 13 win -15 loss record ,with only 7 kos, for a 21.88% ko record.
    Sparring is NOT fighting.
One guy may be chilled out, just expecting a couple of rounds of work, the other may, via his agenda driven manager, be out for blood.
Before the chilled guy realises what is happening , he has been embarrassed, the word spreads, and the rookie has a confidence booster under his belt against a name.

Goldman did this with Marciano against the lanky Hein Ten Hoff, scheduled to spar for several days Ten Hoff came in relaxed. Marciano went at him with murder on his mind. Ten Hoff stuck out his left ,and ambled around, between rounds the German's corner aware of what was happening , implored the fringe contender to throw real punches.
The 2nd round was more of the same. Ten Hoff's people, pulled up sticks.
The German's corner berated him.Ten Hoff replied ," I will hit him tommorow". Tommorow did not come,Goldman and Marciano didnt appear.

No Turp's... You wouldn't believe it, but.. Snowy Baker launched from his 'ringside aisle' to grab the rolling cranium, etch Darcy's name on it, dent it like an untouched groin guard, refer it to Harald Baker for a low blow, withold payment for services, enforce a further 20 rounds of sparring in Brisbane, punish the headguard with a vile courtroom verdict, permit Al Lippe to construct a tirade of unpreceedented proportions, bask in glory as Govenor Whitman rejected any permission for the 'head' to practice 'rolling' on any NY gym floor; all the while Klompy rejoiced in the head gear's fallen status.

The head of 'reason' was never recovered.... :blood
