If he get's a mandatory WBC title shot he could be in the O2 or maybe even get a big night with SKy. He will get his shot and Barry Hearn has always been reasonable.
How long is McCloskey going to be waiting for that WBC shot? Olesegun-Chebah is being talked about for how long and still isnt happening. Once it does happen the winner will probably fight a voluntary defence first. Could be looking at over a year before its McCloskeys turn. I dont think they should take the Khan fight if the offer isnt good enough but he shouldnt risk stagnating fighting the likes of Lauri and co. for much longer. Bring over guys like Coleman or Kendall Holt. They cant get on tv in the States so couldnt make ridicolous demands
I would of guessed that the Odyssey arena in Belfast would be a option for a McCloskey world title fight over the o2. What does the Odyssey hold? I wouldnt think there is much of a difference between the 2 of them. Anyhow a win in his European title fight and then hopefully get a World title fight after that. Regarding Andy Murray fight a win there over Rees would be great for him to have. To have a former World title holder on his record will get him some good attention.
he is at least a year away from becoming WBC mandatory though. Chebah vs Olusegun is off again, The winner of Alexander vs Bradley will be fighting Khan in July and will be a major name, so wont get stripped. Rhodes has been top 3 with the WBC for 16 months. he won an eliminator. he is no closer to a title fight.
Noticed that Olusegun-Chebah is off again (was rescheduled for tonight) So I've been digging around a little for info and noticed over on the Scene that Hearn is trying to get the WBC eliminator for McCloskey in April, Kings Hall
Yep, spot on. I thought they might have got the fight in Ireland though. Still a great chance for Andy
Granted Khan's PPV numbers will probably be about the same regardless of the opponent but selling out the MEN arena's 22'000 seats without a crediable opponent is far less likely and McCloskey would certainly have helped with that. To say he should have accepted "whatever was offered" is wrong, very wrong. Whether he was right to walk away from the offer or not I don't know, I will have to wait to hear the details if they ever come out, but a fighter has to do right by himself first.
Dudey: "Doing some interviews today and will clear up some false claims that Amir Khans team have made." Could be interesting... I saw on twitter yesterday that he said: "I'll go public with my offer, people can see for themselves.Lets stop fooling everybody. We have proof if needed."
I really hope they come out with the details if it has fallen through. People over in the Brit forum are saying he was offered 5 times his highest payday or £350k, but that's gotta be bull****, I can't imagine he'd turn that down.
Rees is a good fight for Andy, he's still a very good fighter and this won't be an easy straightforward fight. good to see him fighting a former world champion who has still has credibility and isn't past it. His name will be out there big time if he wins this one...
If he was straight up offered anything over €200,000 then he is being stupid rejecting the fight.... His twitter comments seem to indicate that he was getting a very bad deal...we will see...
