Round 1

Very quick jabs from Russell, his trademark. Incredibly quick. Viloria doesn't like how they taste and circles a bit wide, back sliding along the ropes. Russell cautiously moves in and out with rapid-fire jabs delivered off-rhythm in pairs and triples as well as some loners. Russell really starts opening up and tattoos Viloria's face with hard straight shots, putting extended combos together that land loudly and clearly sting. Viloria starts to back away a bit faster and with a graver expression on his face. Viloria is keeping his hands at his hips and trying to use his feet to carry him to safety. Russell is always just half a step behind, menacing with his quick jabs all the while and dropping levels every now and then to poke Viloria in the belly with the jab when the hands go up to defend the face. Viloria looked a bit shaky a few times there.

10-9 Russell

 

Round 2

Russell keeps surging forward, bringing hard left hands in hot on the heels of his jab and actually leading with them a bit, getting full optimization out of his reach by taking large quick steps forward as he punches. Viloria is backed up and buzzed a few times as he tries to keep his forearms out to flypaper Russell's punches. Viloria is nailed against the ropes and has to scurry to escape serious punishment as Russell opens up. Viloria tries a few low jabs to the body but Russell is too slick defensively, hanging back and leaning away with his feet set on the outside before coming right back with his jabs.

20-18 Russell

 

Round 3

Russell keeps that fast right jab trained on Viloria's face while the tall Colombian looks to move in constant orbit and stop to flurry once every rotation. Russell really spanks him with a quick left cross bang on the chin and Viloria is rocked on his heels before getting back to circling left. They clinch a few times as Viloria tries to step inside Russell's blasting range. Viloria finds the jabs just as painful on the inside. Viloria takes to diving in with slapping overhand rights and attempted body shots before pulling Russell headfirst into clinches.

30-27 Russell

 

Round 4

Russell charges in with his right jab working overtime. Viloria swats down at him and lands a few inadvertent rabbit punches as Russell exposes the back of his head while jabbing low with his chin tucked. Viloria is trying to set traps, laying on the ropes and then lurching forward with power punches as Russell gives pursuit. Viloria is eating some brutal left hands in the process. HUGE right hook on the inside snaps Viloria's skull into a near spin atop his neck! Russell keeps following and patiently setting up combos with single and double jabs down low.

If he weren't such a damn midget, I really think the sky would be the limit for Gary. He is so talented it's crazy.

 

Round 5

Viloria is feeling spunkier now, popping off hard jabs and grunting as he circles left and trying to put combos together from mid-range while Russell is watching and waiting. Russell steps in and counters him and gets Viloria to pipe down offensively. Russell follows but doesn't rush him. Viloria circles with his hands up and flinches as Russell body-feints while crouching on the outside with his arms spread wide. Viloria flurries and Russell puts up a high guard to block everything, then comes forward and narrowly misses a hard left hand lead as Viloria bolts out of the way. Moments later he fails to get out of the way of one and hits the deck with a resounding thud! Viloria gets up and assures the ref he's OK but is immediately harangued by a fresh-looking Russell and belted with a few more straight left leads. The bell bails him out.

10-8 Russell

 

If you like beautiful lefty boxing and mind-boggling handspeed, stick with it. :good

 

Round 6

Viloria again starts more aggressively, grunting with each jab thrown. Russell keeps gliding in with very deliberate footwork and landing counters from far enough out to not get caught by Viloria's longer but telegraphed shots. Russell starts ripping up the body of Viloria with low left hand leads. Viloria starts dropping his elbows down to try and absorb some of that leather, clearly in pain. Viloria keeps trying to get off first with his jab and some reaching hooks, but Russell continually juliennes him with all manner of combos and gets him rocked up against the ropes time and again.

60-53 Russell

 

This isn't some tomato can Russell is shutting out and beating the daylights out of. It's a former world title contender who's been in with several good names.

 

Round 7

HARD shots from Russell, who now insists on taking the lead. Blistering right hooks crash into Viloria's face and blind him momentarily as shotgun blast left hands burrow deep in his gut.

A bad cut over Viloria's right eye is looked at...and this thing is over.

We'll have to see if it was ruled as having been caused by a punch (didn't see a butt). This might be difficult to determine, not speaking Spanish...
