Team Khan offered double Paul's highest purse to date.

Hearn asked for the 2.5 x the offer.

So Hearn was asking for 5 x Paul's highest purse?

 

It's nice to have the record set straight for once, fair play to McNicholl.

There's no way anybody could expect McC to take a fight this big for just double what he was making for much smaller fights.

 

And I thought my posts were badly written, that link is terrible.

Good luck to Paul against the next journeyman he faces.

 

Unless, you know, he actually believed he would win it.

 

His team know that he definetly can not win so will turn down any offer by a live opponent which is a shame because he could put up a decent effort aqgainst top 30 fighters.

 

Did you read the link? The contract would have forced him to rematch Khan for the same really small purse. Even when he is champion.

 

Thats naughty. If your going to low ball the challenger and expect him to take it because its a chance at the title then the rematch option should at least treat the guy fairly if he wins.

Reading through that another sticking seems to be the Khan-McCloskey PPV sales being compared to the Khan-Maidana sales, They were probably never going to com to agreement on that because one fight will be at 10pm and the other at 3am. Pretty hard to get any meaningful comparison when trying to divide up the pot.

That seems a pretty easy request to give in to. How many ppv sales would Khan get in Ireland were he fighting a non Irish opponent ?, very little, especially when you compare it to overall ppv sales. Irish sales are something that McCloskey would at least be generating 50% of himself, so giving him 50% of the profits for which(actually less as it's minus the number of Khan vs Maidana ppv sales in Ireland) is in no way unreasonable.

Giving in to that condition plus a purse of under £100,000(I'm just speculating but I'm guessing this is the case), seems like quite a lowball offer imo, but it's one McCloskey's team would have accepted.

Seeing as Khan's team have had trouble negotiating with opponents in the past and now this stuff with Ariza has arisen, I think it's safe to say they're tight *******s.

I'm not saying the request wasn't fair or that it was unreasonable just that IF McCloseys team were arriving at these figures by gauging how much Khan-Maidana did then they are probably looking at it from a different angle than the Khans are.

The Khans will know that this fight will do significantly better than the last fight based purely on the timing of the fight.

 

According to that, no matter what it couldn't have been settled, as over the top of any negotiation on fee for this fight was the fact that he would have to give a rematch recieving the same sum again, which as champion is completely unacceptable to be getting 10-15% of the purse.

[/FONT]Asking for 50% of all Irish ppv sales beyond the Maidana ppv is essentially like asking for 45% of Irish ppv sales. I think that would be a fair request. Afterall if Khan was to rematch Maidana in England during a prime time slot, the ppv figures would still be quite a bit lower in Ireland than if he were to fight McCloskey. This Irish ppv money is money that would essentially be generated by McCloskey and hence he should be entitled to his fair share of it. **** knows why the Khan's wouldn't accept this, as that Irish ppv money just won't be there if they're going to choose a non Irish opponent anyway.

No argument with any of that. My post was never meant to "take sides", just to try and see where the gap in the 2 teams thinking was.

The **** end of the purse and a good slice of the Irish PPV would seem to be a more than fair way of doing things.
