I knew about Locche way back when he was champion and heard about how great a defensive master he was, but it wasn't until I came upon the Classic Forum and was redirected toward Locche and looking up and marvelling at the vids here and elsewhere of the master in action that my esteem for him actually grew.

Julio Cesar Chavez. One of the first boxing matches I ever watched was Chavez/Taylor I. This was the high water mark of his career. From that point on his career is about quantity over quality. Sure he has some nice names on his resume such as Hector Camacho and Greg Haugen, but both of them had seen better days. His best win was over Frankie Randall who had beaten him. Chavez won by quieting. Lets not forget that he was domanteed by Pernell Whitaker.
This was the content that I understood the career of Julio Cesar Chavez.
Before I started to fallow boxing he was one of the few boxers outside of Sugar Ray Leonard, Larry Holmes, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and perhaps Sugar Ray Robinson that I could really ID. When I saw the Taylor fight I felt some what let down. In my opinion he did nothing from that point to impress me.

What I did not have knoldge of was his work at 130 & 135. Outside of Floyd Mayweather Jr and Alexis Arguello. He is probbly the best at 130. On his best night he beats almost anyone at 135. While I'm not going to compare his defense with the greatest defensive boxers I think that it is underrated.

I would say that Chavez has moved from a top 50 ATG to a Top 25 ATG. In my opinion.

Many fighters I didn´t know about (or not much) went up very much. Ali went down a bit, Louis up.

It's a bit of a challenge for me to separate what I've picked up here from other research and footage reviews I've done elsewhere since I originally logged in as Duo. But I guess the biggest change in my all time evaluations while I've been here is that 1919 45-0-0 Greb has clearly ascended to the summit, even over Robinson and Langford. (Gans is the closest challenger to Harry in that respect, and Sam did rate Joe tops, something which ought to carry some considerable weight.)

For me the answer is definitely Harry Wills.

Before I came on this site I saw him as a historical footnote, but as a result of the debates here and elswhere he has loomed into a colosus of his era!

I had not only underestimated him, but also how highly he was regarded in his own time!

V, Only to the uninformed...Do you honestly think that some of todays
fans ,NINETY YEARS later know more than the writers, managers ,and
fighters, who saw the prime Manassa Mauler wreck havoc on his division,
and raved about him. ? He was a force of nature before his 3 year layoff
allowed Tunney, who bided his time, to fight the old rusty Dempsey...And in the second fight Rusty old Jack had Gene down for 15-17 seconds.
Well to me at least, Dempsey and Louis are the two best heavyweights of all time...Time does not alter the truth...
