Never boxed, but been knocked out 3 times in full contact karate matches (2 in competition).

1st time with a liverpunch (inside a minute), against some big Russian dude. Extremely painful, took me a while to be able to walk unsupported.
Quit for a year after that, but couldn't leave it at that (was a good call).

2nd time with a highkick to the head, walked right into it against a German guy I believe, a few seconds before the bout would end and having a huge points lead. Stayed on my feet but was totally out of it. I was warned for the speed and power of that guys kick before the bout.

3rd time about 6 years later against my own little brother (a freakin' middleweight), in a simple sparring match. He didn't wear his gloves, but I thought he didn't need to. He knocked me out cold, felt like I got hit by a hammer on the chin, went down like a tree, head hit the floor (that woke me up), was unable to get up for a while with an enormous headache and a tear in my chin that needed six stitches.

The last one was without any doubt the worst of the bunch.
While the first was very painful, and from a known powerpuncher (the guy came in 2nd at the WC the next year), the one against my brother was the worst and most painful (in a lot of ways) of the bunch.

You got a lotta heart to keep going even when you have a setback. Was Okinawan full contact Karate, Shotokan, or some other form?

Never been knocked down or out in boxing! Got clipped with a hook while throwing my hook and fell back on the ropes. I could see and feel everything but it was quiet as hell for about 15 secs. The only time I have actually been hurt in anything was in some training for KRAV MAGA. Instructor hit me on my shoulder and my entire right side of my body went numb for like an hour. Kind of scared the **** out of me. LMAO!

This hapend to me once recently where my trainer told me and the kid I was sparring (who is sound lad aside from sparring) to go 50%. Anyway I got the impresion he went all out and he gave me a black eye. Next time we sparred we agreed to go full out and I droped him. The worst I've ever been hurt though was literally my first proper sparing session. I was 14 and the other kid was 17 and had had about 8 bouts. Literally the first punch dazed me.

I did Shotokan under the open (multi style under unified rules) or WSKF full contact rules, had over 130 fights.

I've tried to get some fights before, but they've never had anyone for me to match up with, so I can't tell you in fights, but I have sparred a lot of people.

When I first started boxing in the Marines, and in San Diego, I was hurt a few times during training. It feels like a flicker of light and then you feel really dizzy for only like 3 secs, then everything comes back.

One time, when I was boxing at Wild Card, I sparred this older guy without head gear because he was about to turn pro. We had 16oz on though, but he hit me really good with a left hook(I didn't see it), and I had the same feeling (dizzy, flash of light), but this time it lasted longer. I really think if it were with 10oz gloves (we are LHW), I prolly would have been dropped. Although, my trainer said that in fights your punch resistance increases even though the gloves are smaller. I've seen it too, cause my friend, who I hurt many times, went to fight, and he wasn't even hurt once, and he really got hit nice. I don't know though.

Really the only thing that really makes me hurt are the hooks to the temple, the ones on the chin or the nose, haven't really hurt me that much.

The body hurts the worst though, by far IMO. Getting hit there right after you punch (when you are breathing in), takes all of your energy for at least 15 secs. It really is the worst feeling.

Don't feel bad, he was juiced up back then, he admitted to doing steroids the whole time.

Unless you were also using, he had a huge strength advantage.

I was stopped like twice in something like 5 years of training, both times after a body shot on the liver that was thrown in the way I missed it. It is definitely not something nice (see Hopkins-Oscar), and one time I could even feel the effects on the next day.
