Khan beat him and Maidana had 12 rounds and landed many flush shots yet didn't knock him out. He had him out on his feet for the last three rounds and didn't finish him. If anyone's lucky it's Maidana that Khan didn't throw more bodyshots like the one that dropped Maidana.

If you can't do it in 3 you can't do it in 5? stupid logic. He was lucky Cortez was the ref (as I've said I feel Khan should have had a point taken and you clearly see Miguel Diaz say that) but in all fairness it was a gutsy showing by Khan against a bad style for him. The 15 round argument is irrelevant because both fighters trained for 12 and that is the championship limit these days. You get Khan fans saying it should have been 115-110 but I had Khan by one point (I gave 10 10-8 Maidana). Rematch should happen, Maidana will have a better idea of what to do next time but Khan will also have improved by then, so I'd expect another close war.

Everyone wants to jump down the OP's throat for saying Khan was lucky, well he was...he was lucky that the Judge didn't stop the fight, had the Ref been the same Ref that stopped the Arreola fight last night i'm sure he would have easily stopped this fight as-well, being the champ and the bigger name could also be said to have saved Khan from suffering a TKO, so in that sense he was lucky.

So wait, Khan is now lucky because the JUDGE didn't stop the fight?

    I've heard it all now.

Maidana was fortunate to make it such a close fight because....

    - Khan knocked him down at the end of round one. A minute or so more, and he could have been stopped.
    - He caught Khan with hellacious shot in the 10th, which prevented Khan from continuing to outbox him.
    - Khan was tired.
    - Khan has a weak chin.
    - Khan has a **** defence.

*see how stupid the above **** sounds?

Exactly the same way Cintron was lucky to not be counted out in his fight with Sergio and the same way Bute was lucky that there was no more time in that 12th round and the same way Griffin got a lucky win when RJJ hit him while he was down, i could go on and on giving examples of luck... you do know the definition of luck right?

    :huh

But I still don't understand why the judge would have stopped the fight.

So......a judge not having the authority to stop a fight, would be a chance happening of a fortunate event for Khan?

I'm really not here trying to argue, just have an open mind on this subject without wanting to get in a heated debate, now ask yourself have you ever watch a boxing match where a fight was prematurely stopped, if you're an actually boxing fan then you have, Ref's make judgement calls and at times they are bad judgements and sometimes they're good judgements.

If a fighter is in a close fight or is even losing in a fight and he is taking punch after punch without returning fire it's with-in the rules for the Ref to justifiably stopped the fight if the Ref doesn't when he easily could have and said fighter who was in trouble goes on to win then that is what normal people would call being lucky that the fight wasn't stopped.
