Yes,Wills was reputed to pocket $50,000. There is a photo of the signing for that fight, and Dempsey's hands look like shovels...check it out on google
under Floyd Fitzimmons J, and see why Dempsey was so feared then...

Thought so, the guy on the left must be 6'6 or something unless Jeffries is bending forward as he jogs. I still don't think he looks close to 330lbs, more 260-270. Exageration didn't start in the 80s :yep

Mirage offered 38/1 after a punter asked for and got a bet on Tyson to win.

Ali's (Clay's) long break after being decked by Cooper in their first bout, because of the torn glove.

The BBC put a clock on the live feed, it turned out the round break lasted 70 seconds.

Also Ali's glove was not replaced, but repaired.

What sensible fight fan ever said that Dempsey EVER FOUGHT harry Wills ?
Answer : No one.! To berate the memory of Jack Dempsey, repeatedly, when
he did sign for the fight with Wills, which history shows to be true, does a disservice to the man ,who certainly did not harm you or any of the detractors
of the Manassa Mauler. To constantly SINGLE this man out for this cancellation of the bout, through No fault of his, whilst a slew of other fighters
who did not fight other worthy contenders,at some time in their careers, goes
    unknoticed,is not fair ....

Another good one for me is Mike Tyson's height - listed as 5'11 3/4" - I remember back in the 80's I remember Harry Carpentier suggesting with a wry chuckle that the tale of the tape may be being a bit generous to Tyson with that one. I've always thoughthe did look a lot shorter than that - and a few years ago a friend of mine bumped into him in an all night clothes store in Las Vegas while on holiday - now bare in mind my friend is exactly 6 foot tall and he goes to me "Tyson's a bit of a short arse isn't he?" and I said why how tall did you think he seemed ?and he said "well he was quite a bit shorter than me - I'd say he not much taller than you actually" (and I'm 5'7") - my friend estimated Tyson to be about 5'8" - 5'9"max - and judging by the picture he had with him stood side-by-side he came up to maybe a shade higherthan where I come up to my mate aswell (certainly not the quarter of an inch shorter that the tale of the tape suggests) more like a clear 3 or 4 inches shorter. There was a similar thing with Holyfield aswell - as a cruiserweight he was always listed as 6'1" but then after he'd undergone his scientific computer training to bulk him up to heavyweight they were now listing him as 6'2" (some as 6'2 1/2") - I remember a Ring Magazine journalist making a scarcastic joke about they must've put Holyfield in a grow-bag aswell! haha
