This dude has seriously made me laugh out loud with his ridiculous list! http://hubpages.com/hub/Top-Ten-Greatest-Boxers-of-All-Time Basically his ATG list is: 1) Joe Louis 2) Ali 3) Robinson 4) Jack Johnson 5) MIKE ****ING TYSON 6) Jack Dempsy 7) JCC 8) Rocky Marciano 9) Henry Armstrong 10) Willie Pep Usually things like this don't bother me, but the pure ignorance to boxing is laughable, and hurtful to the sport. Enjoy berating the fool :good
I remember when I first got properly into boxing as a whole package rather than the 90's and 2000's and what my ATG list looked like. Its not too bad, right sort of names there at least. Can't expect everybody to be up on their Langford and Greb (though it would be great if they were.)
i agree, i didn't even know who Greb was till about 4 years ago then did my research and was like "holy ****". you just can't expect everybody (even hardcore fans) to know over a 100 years of boxing history or even care. but if you are even going to attempt a atg list you better know your ****.
That's not too bad? The guy has Tyson at 5 and doesn't mentioned Duran or SRL. It's laughable. Marciano above Armstrong? It's just plain crap. And some of the comments are even worse. There's half a dozen people who think Manny is the greatest ever! Someone even said Tyson was top 3!
When I try to comprehend the whole of boxing history my head just melts. Going to the classic section on this forum melts my head. I tend to rate my fighters in order from...1975 and onwards maybe? Though I do like learning about guys sporadically like Tunney and Liston.
Those where the things that stood out to me. If you know about Tyson surely you know about Duran and Leonard! Also if you include Armstrong on a list surely know about him (same with Pep) yet you would then rate him behind Marciano, as good as the rock was? I sort of get the idea that the guy looked at some all time great lists from the Ring etc and made his own changing the order around names he knows.
Yeah as others have said it isn't that abysmal. I met a guy a while back who rated Ingemar Johansson above Liston (I wish I was joking). I remember when I started out I really overrated Chavez, Marciano, and Bob Foster. I remember staunchly believing that Foster was a top 5 atg.
Tyson is recent, so though you may be surprised today to see him in someone's top 10 ATG list, considering what he did for boxing, and how some of the most important fights for Lewis and Holyfield were with Tyson, don't be surprised if down the road he is an easy Top 10 ATG.
The fighter thats way out of place is Mike Tyson.......that author states, 'fear factor".....nevermind that Tyson lost to the better opposition he ever faced. ......alot of people may not have Chavez in the top 10, but at the very least a good case can be made he deserves a mention in a top 10 list. .......yes, a case can be made for Chavez to be above the likes of Duran and Leonard, but certainly no case can be made for Mike Tyson being in such a list.
Bad list, sure. But you're repeated peddling of Leonard doesn't really make you seem that much more knowledgable... He shouldn't even scrape a top 10 ATG list.
