That would be great however the problem is sort of like chicken and the egg...

You can't set up a fight until you know how much money you have to offer them.. which is going to come from the Broadcaster so they are actually involved throughout the process of opponent selection. Which is why a date gets pencilled in. Pointless setting up a fight, going to the broadcaster and they say "Oh sorry, that date is busy".. and you end up with your purse divided by 10 and on ITV4 :)

On bigger fights of course, say if it was Ricky Vs Khan, they would agree in principle to fight, approach the broadcaster, in return be given a list of dates, and then they would negotiate who gets what % of PPV buys and the buy return. However in bouts like this in which the event is effectively a 1 man show "Amir Khan boxing match on April 16th"... they get the date, then go out and find who can fight on that date

Khan shouldn't be fighting in Britain. He's just a big enough star here to make it economically viable to pay the big bucks to get a genuine name over. If the April 16th date was in America he'd not only get more money from HBO but would have a wider choice of opponents. Hatton went years without fighting in the UK whilst he established himself stateside.

I think the fault lies with Khan's team more than Sky. Sky gave them this date a long time ago, and Khan's team really should have found an opponent by now. But their cluelessness and greed, has put them and Sky in the position they're in now. This would never have happened if Warren had remained in charge.

Despite being a Khan fan, I'm beginning to wish they rush their decision, pick the wrong guy, and Khan loses. It's what they deserve.

Hatton had an established following here in the UK before he went to the States. This allowed him to remain there whilst his fans followed him. Khan doesn't have that. He left for the USA really young, and his core followers are of a different type to Hatton. They're not the type to go in thousands to another country to support their guy. They'd much rather stay at home.

And seeing as though it's a tune-up, I think he'd be earning more here in the UK than he would on HBO in the US - where it'll be almost mandatory for him to fight a tougher opponent if they wish to make a good earning. It's not easy to draw in crowds over there.

Yeah, basically he has the 3 states side fight deal with GBP , guaranteeing a minimum 1.25million dollars per bout.. BUT as you probably realise, it's HBO who technically pay this money, so they wouldn't be able to turn up with just any opponent, it would have to be a tough opponent, either through moving up, or facing JMM and so on.

Not right now, but I think Khan will take him again later on as a tune-up so he can do the old LL "He beat every man he ever met in the ring".

Bradley, Maidana 2, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Katsidis, JM Marquez.

the only PPV worthy opponents for Amir Khan.

I don't really see the big deal,it doesn't matter who he fights next,it has been stated as a keep busy fight. i'm waiting for the Bradley fight and if that does happen in the summer then it doesn't really matter.

However on the flipside it would be better for Khan to fight someone who will increase his experience and get some rounds in. This will help Khan physically and mentally prepare for Bradley but the big deal would be when he is fighting Bradley,I don't even understand why everyone is making a big deal out of his next fight, maybe everyone has high expectaions after the Maidana fight???

    Conspiracy ;), but.......

You could argue, that due to the nationalistic nature of our fans, who they cater for, that its better for Sky to protect their interest by drip feeding us other stay busy fights that potentially have less chance of derailing him? however unlikely some might think that is, its already happened once, that alone, is seemingly enough for Khan not to want to chance his armour.

Khan certainly doesn't seem to want to fight him, I dont know why, but that seems to be the case.

I dont blame Khan, I did'nt like the way he tried to pass of his not wanting to fight him, due to him falling off the radar. Was Prescott ever even on! the radar?
