I'm surprised by the numbers. I got tickets, but, it was a pain in the butt to get them online. The system was having issues. They were on sale, then not on sale. Then back on sale but no tickets would pull up. Then it would error out when you did pull up tickets before you could complete the sale. We couldn't get tickets online for about an hour. MGM Grand was tweeting out to call Ticketmaster. $500 and below seemed to have very little tickets available. One writer was tweeting that there was a high probability of tickets having been pulled and given directly to ticket brokers as opposed to being made available for public sale. We'll see what happens. I wouldn't be shocked if tickets were to be had cheaper later on the secondary market. When the company broadcasting the fight is the biggest news about the fight to get people excited, thats a bad sign. Doesn't jive with the sales. I'm not really all that excited about the fight. Its a Pac fight so its an event. Hopefully the Soto-Antillon rematch is on the card. Hopefully Pavlik does fight on the card as well. I know it'll be a soft touch, but, it'll be cool to see him back in the ring. Sounds like ESPN will be broadcasting FNF from Vegas. So, I'll hit that as well. It should be a fun weekend, but, the Pac fight may be the least of it.
Demoman, here's the thing. You could have all the top Jr Welters fight on the same night in Las Vegas on a card like this: Judah/Peterson Matthysse/Marquez Maidana/Alexander Khan/Bradley ...and Pacquiao would sell more tickets in the first three hours against a crap opponent than the entire card above would sell in three weeks. You can't compare the pull of modern day ATGs like May, Pac and DLH to up and comers in the jr welter division.
These are 3 PPV main event fighters that are on the undercard. Arce vs vazquez Jr. could've easily been a Latin Fury Top Rank PPV main event that wouldve sold well on its own, cause its another Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry battle. Humberto Soto vs Urbano Antillon is an HBO Main eventer, and could have been a PPV Main event on its own, and done well. Pavlik has been a PPV main event attractions in the past and done mediocre. all 3 PPV draws, are undercard fights to support an overratd EPO Steroid Juicer vs another EPO Juicer, that would not have sold well, without the support of a good strong undercard.
i guess its more than that something like about 20k. but ain't it easy to fill up 20k when there's no other ppv around maybe Bob Arum could be lying or telling the truth.
make or break? the dude is almost 40! there IS no career! its fighting for his paycheck at this point
show's u there aren't many boxing fans, majority its manny fans....boxing should be thanking manny for all he's doing....once he leaves...well....
I bought tickets today as well. They were supposed to be on sale at 10 am, 1 pm EST, and I was on there hitting refresh until I was finally able to submit a request for tickets at about 1:10 EST. From 1-1:09 the page said that tickets were not on sale yet. Anyway, I was able to get a pair and then I went back and tried to see if cheaper seats were still available and they were already sold out. Steve Kim speculated that most tickets could possibly be in the hands of brokers and that sucks if true. But I can't imagine this little press release to be accurate knowing Top Rank and the biz in general. They said similar things about Mayweather-Mosley ("10MM live gate in first day") but people were buying tickets up until the day of that fight. Who knows and who cares really.
you're the only one who knew about the undercard and soto homie....if u claim majority bought the tickets are *******s, then u kno they don't know/give a f about humberto....so which is it, a lot of *******s buying the manny fight, or boxing fans wanting to see humberto.....nice try
Its bullshiaaaat, oldest seller trick in the book that ARum is using, by making it look like something nobody wants look like everybody wants it , then people on the fence will follow along and think its ok if the others bought it. the tickets were given away or sold super cheap, probably were bought up by motels and given away. Arum lies alot, and then gives tickets away. he did this when Pac fought Clottey and Margarito at Dallas.
yup, take aztecs word....rather than doin that hustle for himself and make him a lot of money, he'd rather type on esb :good
