What are the best overlooked wins of the 1980s?

    I thought he was usually cuter about the mauling stuff(in a poor man's Hopkins sort of way) and employed more movement and boxing.

    Curry was still a better counterpuncher than the opposition his style worked on though, for sure.He was able to beat the inconsistent, but fairly talented Aquino too.That was another good win.

    1. Bramble vs Manicini, both fights - sad ending for boom boom, but very good fights and good wins for Bramble.. All to often passed off as Ray not having it anymore.

    2. Berbick vs Thomas - Big win for Trevor at that stage in his career.

    3. Nunn vs Kalambay - gets mentioned occasionally, but not for a win as collosal as this.

    4. McCallum vs Curry - Huge win

    that McCallum/Curry fight was unreal. I could tell in the early rounds that even though Curry was giving Mike a good fight, that Mike was too strong. Mike would land the right hand and Donald would ride with the punch but he hit and it would rock him and it just looked like he was fighting well but losing the overall battle. Eventually the size issue came up, and Donald should not have dropped his hands and backed up with his hands down. The Kalambay fight was odd. I would have like to have seen how Kalambay would have done had he not been stopped since Kalambay was good.

    I think Pink is Berbick's best win, it was an impressive performance. :bbb
    Trevor sure showed his chin, taking fast bombs from Thomas.

    That was an incredible performance by Marlon. I remember Lyoy'd busted cheek at the end of that fight.

    Ursua strikes a blow for unskilled punchers everywhere, against the overconfident Zapata.


    Tony Sibson vs Alan Minter

    Minter was past it, but more in the sense he fought well within himself after the Hagler bout, rather than being a worn out shell.Still very tough and Sibson just did his decent Olivares impression and caved him in with some brutal short punches.

    Don Lee vs Sibson

    Maybe a bit of a stylistic thing as Lee would never look as quick or sharp again, but i think he may have had out of the ring problems contributing to that.He was certainly very inactive.

    Buster Drayton had a handful of good, but forgotten wins.An underrated fighter imo.

    nice list. Thomas Mugabi was always seen as a thumb causing the knockout. Smith Costello was nice. Tate/Olajide was great. Olajide actually showed great heart in that fight.

    Mayweather was getting a ton of good press at the time, and fight got the kudos it derserved.

    As for Gold outshining Glitter, the fight made Tate's reputation, he was hotshot-ted up to the top of the post Hagler Middleweight rankings. He just found out that he was Second to at least one...
