That sounds about right. I know a guy that had Eurosport cover his bill and they did it for free. But obviously the cost of hauling their ass across the Irish sea would be an additional cost.
People need to get on to their local TD's as well. With an election coming up those usually lazy fúckers might actually make a bit of noise. Hopefully they can squezze it in the budget and we dont have to miss Avoca v Skerries in the Leinster womens hockey!
Surely they could recoup some of that with television advertising revenue? This fight would get great viewing figures on Irish TV. I wonder how many viewers tuned in for Dunnes last couple of fights?
Dunne peaked around 700,000, which is what RTE's flag ship and most sucessful show pulls in, The Late Late, on average! I heard 440,000 tuned in to see Casey on the Saturday night show, the second time he was on it. That show, i think, usually peaks at 250,000- so Casey does gaurantee ratings and could even eclipse Dunne's figures. In Rugbys defence Slap-it garantees a ABC1 audience( people with the most dispospal income or broad sheet readers) so RTE can charge alot more for advertising and recoup alot of money showing that. Not to mention Rugby is another great sport!!!
There was me thinking that RTE had a public charater and that everyone had to pay the licence fee irrespective of NRS categorised social grade! The only minority sports that RTE are interested in broadcasting are those that appeal primarily to West Brits and yuppies! Riddle me that!

I'm mad about this tv nonsence. That said - I don't like judging people based on what sport they watch! I don't believe in "working class" or "middle class" etc. I think somtimes that those terms only fuel divisive attitudes. I understand why people feel the need to generalise sometimes and I know that sometimes there are large minorities and small majorities. Just hate this sports and politics crap. I know people who have a hang up about football. I know people who have a hang up with GAA. I know people who have a hang up with Rugby. The thing that makes me laugh is that I'm 100% certain that if I brought them all out ona night toghether they would all get on well with each other. I always tell kids to try out as many sports as they like and then pick the ones they enjoy most. Personally I played and loved all 3 as a teenager (still prefer boxing though). I can't be "classed" and I am pretty sure there are many people out there that can't be classed because they like a particular sport. I understand certain peoples hang ups and preconceptions. I won't go in to why the people I know who have those perceptions have them but lets just say that they judged the entire sport by their perception of one particular group of fans or one or two experiences. I am not sure I could convince them otherwise. Anyway - just a small thing but thought I'd mention it. Also - I bet if people though they could guess my background because I played any of those sports or guessed my upbringing they couldnt be further from the truth.

We're a sports mad national and theres not all that many of us so you find its a lot of the same people supporting each sport be it Hurling or Horse racing, Rugby or Rallying, Soccer or Swimming, Boxing or Basketball.
lol yeh I'm a fisher man from Kenmare who went to be a gaa player before my rich Daddt sent me to Galway univesity where I played Soccer only to do an internal transfer to west Britian where I palyed Ruggerbugger for home farm. :yep
