Tyson doesn't do weights; Tyson as "unknockoutable"

    He certainly did heavyweights towards the end. Nothing wrong with heavy weights, very benefiscial as long as you don't create weak links in your chain and and emphasise de-acceleration (as weights without increasing resistance will develop)

    The difference is, one has always been used in boxing, one is relatively new. Important difference to outline in the view of your opinion that weight-training makes better boxers.

    The rest of your post: Tyson was at his most explosive when he didn't use weights to train for boxing.

    Roy Jones, too.

    Most explosive guys i've seen on film.

    Tyson has mentioned how he got into weights later in his career when he became easy...said weights are a easier workout then boxing workouts/running (its true) easier but give you good asthetic results....basically he said he got the point where he was more concerned with looking like he could fight then putting int he work to fight well...and at that point he started lifiting more.

    Olympic lifts would typically be broke down while training an athlete/boxer to cleans/jerks/snatches/full squats and assistance exercises strengthening weak links in the chain. Cleans/snatches/jerks are multi-joint exercises. If these exercises are performed with 50% of the weight of a squat, it will take many times more power to perform the lift. Hence they make an athlete more powerful and explosive than any other lift. They also require the lift to be performed at a high speed and need good coordination

    Squats are a great exercise in themselves for developing maximal limit strength in the hips/legs/butt and will increase power/speed/explosivity but not to the extent of OL

    If a boxer could significantly improve his power snatch/clean/jerk you would see him being a far more explosive boxer as a result without question

    Seperately and you really need a trainer (and not a regular personal trainer) to teach you the techniques, they work the lower back if your misaligned you can easily slip a disk

    bluh..everytime i ever lifted when training to fight it slows me down....it seems to tighten up the tendons....also...when you are lifting hard it uses up allot of your bodys recovery reserves....i find that lifting can be good if done between training...maybe you train 6 weeks for a fight...fight..take a few days off...lift hard for 4 weeks..take a week off....train boxing for 6 weeks...fight...extra...

    The training footage of Mike in "Tyson: Beyond the Glory" is not from his "preparation" for the Lewis fight.

    It's from his training for the Etienne fight. There are two reasons for this:

    1. "Tyson: Beyond the Glory" was filmed while Tyson was preparing to face Etienne.

    2. It's obvious from his physique in the clips; he was a somewhat ripped 225lbs against Etienne, but a shameful soft 234lbs against Lewis, a fight for which a good deal of his training camp was spent getting stoned on the beach with Rastas.

    If he looked a bit uncomfortable, he may well have been. Tyson said himself that he used to get leery sometimes seeing a potential opponent (depending on the look of them) in person or on the street. He said that once in the ring, that fear vanished, and he felt he could beat any man alive.
