Who beat the better blown up welter weights? Hagler. But Hopkins has gone up a few weight classes and got a few wins as the underdog against people he wasn't supposed to beat. Hopkins.
Me too, But thats not the question, I thought p4p it is 50/50 I want to see if im right or wrong, while Hagler is the best middleweight I rate hopkins slightly higher p4p because has beaten the odds so many times and was succesfull at higher weights even at 45 while hagler stayed his whole career at 160.
two very different kinds of careers. I honestly think you can make a case for Hagler not legitimately losing a fight with those decisions, or ever being actually hurt in his career, but Hopkins accomplishments at the high weights at his age are remarkable and it shows extraordinary longevity as well as that twenty defense streak. I argue that he did not lose the Taylor fights but by the very very thinnest of activity margins and actually gave more rounds to him ... I think this is about as dead even as it gets, both deserve to be the top ten of all time for achievements. I think Hagler might win a head to head but p4p accomplishments have to go to Hopkins, the biggest black mark he has on his career is that Roy Jones match up where he clearly could not compete with Jones' speed in their boring first fight, which was a hundred times more exciting than their rematch. Hopkins. Ugh. I hate to say it. Maybe if Hagler had done something at light heavy I could warrant putting him ahead, but the best I can do is say that at middleweight Hagler might trouble Hopkins with workrate, power, and uncrackability.
I rank both athletes similarly. I rank Hagler slightly higher due to his wins over Leonard (I believe he edged the bout), Hearns, and Duran. But I honestly dont think either would fare well in today's middleweight division. I have enclosed a list of Euro-level professionals which I am certain would best any version of Hagler and Hopkins at 160. I have studied these athletes in exhaustive detail and have made my conclusion based on an analysis of styles. I challenge anyone to dispute my findings. Grzegorz Proksa 22-0 Dominik Britsch 20-0 Maksym Bursak 21-0 Sebastian Zbik 30-0 Vitaliy Kopylenko 12-0
hopkins is my boy, and will always be my favorite fighter for his versatility, (unless he tests positive for steroids or something) but what he did against jones in the rematch cost him some legitimacy. hagler wouldn't fall out crying, he'd whoop somebody's ass if they fouled him.
