May 2, 2009 at Las Vegas Nevada for 140 lineal championship after Pacquiao beating of Delahoya at 147 and Hatton beating of #1 ranked Malignaggi at 140.

Simple question, during that time and even at hindsight, a cherry-pick for pacquiao or not?

Hatton cherry picked Pac as he thought he was far too small to beat him same as cotto and de la hoya.

i love hatton and am a bit of a ***** but these are cold hard facts!!!

Na i dont think this one was cherry picked.

Pacquiao has been matched very very very cleverly. But fighting Hatton, clearly the best Light welterweight for 3 years, is hardly cherry picking.

Does Hattons style make it an easy fight for Pac? Absolutely. But i dont see how fighting the UNDISPUTED number 1 in the division is cherry picking. Especially if your coming from a lower weight class yourself

it was definitely............ NOT a cherry pick

many people thought he could loose the fight, just because pac pics fighters apart doesnt make it a cherry pick, its easy to say in hindsight that hatton was over the hill... simple fact is, pac foght hatton at his weight where hatton was recognised as the lineal champ

fair enough, he got his arse kicked by mayweather, but that fight took place at 147, where hatton was borderline useless, at 140 he was a different fighter....

ive loved pac for years & i was a little worried for him fighting hatton... its easy to say he only looked good against mallanagi cause it was a perfect style for him but ffs thats just hating of pac, pure and simple

No. Sure Pac was the favorite but right after the Oscar fight the general sentiment was that fans wanted to see Pac-Hatton. A lot of people wanted this fight because it was generally seen to be a competitive fight against a fighter undefeated at the weight (and lineal champ to boot) and could still "pull the trigger" unlike Oscar.

I remember, right after watching the Oscar fight, the 1st thing we started talking about (after expressing the shock we felt at the outcome of the fight) was how awesome a Pac-Hatton fight would be.

In hindsight it's easy to say it was a cherry pick given the results of the fight, but before the fight very very few thought it wouldn't be competitive.

IMO, a fight is only a cherry pick if majority of the people (fans, boxing media etc) think the fight would not be competitive in any way BEFORE a fight and a better, more competitive fight was scrapped in favor of that fight. In the case of the Hatton fight, a lot thought it would be competitive and outside of a 3rd fight with Marquez, no other realistic fight would be more competitive (fights with the top Welterweights like Cotto, Mosley were not viewed as realistic at the time). So no, not a cherry pick at all.

Having a single loss makes you a left over? Silly child.

Pac fought Hatton at his optimum weight while moving up himself to fight the top guy in the division.

    Thread question is silly.

It's a mop up, looked decent because Hatton found Paulie and Buddy McGirt. Don't know if I would've called it a cherry pick, quite a few people wanted to see that matchup back then.

Agree with this , it looked a decent fight but Manny and Freddie must've known that Hatton was made for him and if they watched the lazcano fight they must've know he was slipping too.

This is from a HUGE Pacfan !
