Wow.. you are full of misinformation. Clearly you weren't following boxing at the time. Vitali was supposed to fight Cedrick Boswell in a 10 round fight.

 

all of lewis's comments and actions before and after his retirement(running scared) clearly pointed to the FACT he was very intimidated by the klitschko's.

Lewis was so intimidated by Vitali that after taking everything Vitali could throw at him for the first three rounds he dug deep, turned the fight around, busted Vitali's face open and forced the stoppage.

 

lewis wasn't pumped to fight anymore and he retired at exactly the right time.

he wasn't "scared" of the klitschko's because vitali getting a crack at lewis was the first real time people knew who the klitschko's were - unless you happened to follow their career before that when they were fighting mostly under the radar.

lewis won the fight, it could have gone either way - vitali was ahead on points but lewis was the better fighter and the fight really could have gone either way.

wlad was always - always - seen as the better prospect out of the two brothers...until the sanders fight which changed everything...

It's funny but the brothers shining moment is one of them having a slight lead over Lewis when the fight was stopped because their face was battered.

 

What Lewis nuthuggers conviently keep forgetting is that Lewis was not planning to retire before the fight. He was planning to fight Johnson in June. The fight with Vitali was set for December.

Lewis himself said that he was in the best shape since Holyfield fight before the fight and then changed his story after Vitali whooped his a$$.

He did not successfully defend his title against Vitali since WBC ordered the rematch immediately. "Had nothing to prove" story does not hold water. He had to prove that he was still the champ.

 

His point still stands up though even though he got the opponent wrong, that was Vitali's first fight in America I believe, it was to be his 'win this and you get Lewis' fight and we're supposed to believe he wasn't well motivated for that?
At the end of the day, all the stars were aligned for Vitali to beat Lewis and he still lost. Take off your pointy hood and mull that over for a while.

 

Yeah... nevermind the fact that Wladimir Klitschko has dominated for 7 years... and is the IBF, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine Champion also having knocked out the true WBA Champ. Wlad stands alone... his career in itself is better than Vitali's... so no... that isn't their "shinning moment". It may very well have been the moment in which the world realized how tough Vitali Klitschko is. It was clearly a big push in his career as the entire world watched him best Lennox Lewis over 6 rounds only to be stopped on a cut from a grazing punch. Then the entire world watched as Lennox Lewis sat on his title for another 8 months... tried to fight Roy Jones Jr and sue Mike Tyson back into the ring... then turn down over 25 million dollars and retire as soon as the WBC mandated that he either fight Vitali against or be stripped of his title. So... chasing Lennox Lewis out of boxing is surely a nice feather in Vitali's cap.

I am sure if you ask the Klitschko brothers... it would have been when they both became Champs at the same time. Which was always their dream.

From what it appears, you are giving Vitaly more credit for losing than Lewis for actually winning.

What motivation did he need to rematch Vitaly? It would have done nothing for his legacy. History has pattern of the changing of the guard among HW champions. Lewis realized this after the 2nd round. He managed to turn things around get a stoppage on cuts. Vitaly's misfortune was his inability to take out Lewis who showed up under trained and in the heaviest shape of his career.

Sometimes a great fighter realizes that they no longer have what it takes to perform at an optimal level. Sometimes they no longer have the motivation to get in shape after a career full of accomplishments.

The point was Vitaly needed the rematch.
Not Lewis.

Lewis was the champ and Vitaly failed to dethrone him and the final result was Lewis TKO6.
