How come nobody is pointing out (Devon)...

you could just tell he didnt want to keep fighting. ive seen many fighters losing thier fight with far worse cuts begging the doctor to let them fight, its heart and Devon lacks of it

Just like Dirrell....his headaches have now dissapeared now that he dont have to fight Warde for a while....and now he's mysteriously able to fight :-o big shock there. The funniest part is that he was holding the wrong eye LOL. If you read the threads from after after the fight on here...even his owns fans knew he was lukin for a way out....i think maybe one person was trying to back the guy up....but beleive this....he bitched out. simple.

 

What's relevant is that he couldn't see. The cut on his left eye which ultimately was the cause for the fight being halted was far less dramatic on the surface than the cut on his right eye, obviously. But the affect of the final cut proved to be more critical. Again, Devon couldn't see and was clearly in a great deal on discomfort. He was yelling and complained of a stinging sensation. Why are people disputing his claims? Does he have a history of complaining? Was he so far removed for contention at that junction of the fight?

Personally, I view the situation for what actual transpired: Devon was butted several times, the final one hindered his vision and prevented the fight from continuing. No alternate theories needed.

 

I suspect that anytime now that a fighter is unable to continue in reasonable context to the Dirrell situation, you will inherently draw a comparison and call the fighter a quitter, eh?....

he was complaining about the cut on the right though. basically he did not wanna fight. he was acting like a *****. i was rooting for him too cause he has better mechanics, but he showed me he had no heart. he did not wanna fight.

 

I'm not saying that fighters haven't ever over dramatized an injury with the intentions of pulling out of a fight before, i.e Lorenzo vs Soto, but like you, I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. :thumbsup

 

Thats what i thought too. I thought at first it was stopped becuase of the one on the left side of his face. It was obvious Alexander just wanted a way out of the fight though. Its not like he contested it and said he wants to keep fighting just give him time or something.

He just wanted out. Just like Ortiz didnt complain when his fight was stopped. He ignored the ref/doctor and just walked away.

Guys like JMM, Margarito, Vargas have fought with serious face deformities and cuts yet never looked like they wanted out.

 

Well the thing is he looked discourage in the fight and from what i've seen he was opening both eyes while the Doc was examining him so i don't know why they say he wasn't and only a few minutes after the butt he looked just fine, thats where heart comes in.

He was complaining and showing no sign of wanting to continue he talked all that **** on the build up of the fight and didn't follow thru, it's a fight he has no heart if the **** happened on the street what would he do call time out, no that **** doesn't fly and if you want the fans respect you have to show a warriors heart.

No one is going to continue to back a fighter with no heart and no will to win, so he is a ***** for quitting and he will always be remembered as such.

 

Bottom line this is boxing it's a hurt sport, unfortunate situations come up, cuts above eyes is a regular thing in this game, i mean lets be realistic that cut could have easily been caused by a punch, would you still defend him for quitting, i don't now and damn sure wouldn't then you have to overcome adversity to be great and Devon will never be great, a true warrior would have at least taken the time to recoop or at least disputed the stoppage but he bowed out and deserves no respect for that.

 

doctor stopped the fight. devon did not quit. devon will win a world title again in my opinion. i would pick him over maidana and in a bradley rematch.

 

There have been fighters who have sustained a much worse injury and still fought through it. Pro fighters are expected to go the extra distance which is a step beyond reason. This is why I feel something as simple as a few extra blood tests shouldn't be a big deal. Devon quit. Simple as that. I like the guy though. And I hope he redeems himself at some point. Watching a tape of Yuri Foreman's last performance would be a fine start.

 

When any boxer stops the fight when he could of kept fighting with a legit injury or not he is a quitter.

This is how this board works.

Some dude could snap his leg and people would still call him a quitter.
