Past and present champions being invited into the ring, introduced to the crowd and wishing both corners good luck.

Me too, M. It was gettin' a brief glimpse of what the fighters were like outside the ring.

jg, Haven't heard that expression in a long time.Tony Zale liked that quote.
I also miss fighters wearing black or white trunks, instead of mini-skirts they wear today. i also miss Harry Balogh and Johnny Addie announcing the fighters correctly instead of todays yodeling.

"I haven't read "Hit 'em in the labonza!" since Flash Gordon's heyday, (although I've used that terminology myself in a couple of posts here on ESB Classic). For a smoky ambiance without the politically incorrect health risk, I suppose dry ice in a chilled fog machine can be used to try mimicking a vintage atmosphere.

What turned me off to boxing was the abolition of the championship distance. Boxing amputated several decades of irretrievably lost history and drama by capitulating to initiatory demands of those who ultimately advocate the complete abolition of the sport. I'm hardly alone in permanently abandoning contemporary boxing. Many retired greats can't identify hardly any modern champions. From what I understand, Flash himself abandoned boxing entirely decades ago.

I miss the smoking of whatever you like at ringside and reasonably priced hotdogs with ice cold beer that ain't $10 dollars per 16 oz. cup....

It's because of the anti-smoking laws and insane prices for beer and dogs that I now either stay home and do the PPV or stay in my hotel room and do the PPV there....

I'd rather hang back at the room nowadays and do the PPV there with a VCR hook-up and beer on ice with some stoney weed that includes a clean bathroom down the hall and a half naked broad laying on the bed... I'm serious about that....

Definitely, but also, the parade of champions gave a bout more authority, class and professionalism to me.

I additionally agree with Duodenum about the championship rounds being abolished. I prefer 15 round fights and note that fighters like Pernell, B-Hop, Floyd and Roy seemingly could've fought 15 rounds as well as other 15 round fighters.

J.G., I love those old b&w boxing movies from the 30's, 40's and 50's..with the cigar smoking, "hit 'im in the labonza" types in the crowd...with a few well dressed "dames" in the mix as well...some of the crowd wavin' their fists and all...

    That was great. :good

However, it was sad to see Lennox & Bruno get in the ring to endorse & show their support for the farcical Haye-Harrison.

A nobbins fight is when the crowd throw money into the ring after a particularly good effort by both fighters.
I'm starting to feel a bit nostalgic reading this thread. 15 round fights, fighters getting introduced, nobbins, proper shorts. Maybe I'm getting old.
