As far as the overrated stuff, I would think people are talking in relation to how Sky build him up. The constant references to Hamed and such. Apart from Cleverly, of our non world champions he just about gets the most ridiculous props.
I don't think it is. From Jones onwards..... Jones was 15 (7) - 1 (0) - 0 and had lost his last fight to Tony Doherty. Now 16-6 with 3 KO losses McIntyre was 26 (8 ) - 5 (4) - 0 and nothing of note since Elwell was 12 (1) - 3 (2) - 0 and hasn't fought since Lomax was 15 (2) - 1 (0) - 1 and recently lost to Bradley Price Bienias was 39 (16) - 3 (1) - 0 and had been fighting at 6-round level for years. Won his next fight against a 2-15 by MD Jennings we all know about Kotey 21 (15) - 5 (1) - 2 and had largely faced novices Doesn't read too well in my opinion. It's not as if Kell is a murderous puncher..... he failed to get rid of Ernie Smith (RIP) on three separate occasions. Our top fighters like Hatton, Calzaghe and Froch regularly made mincemeat of decent journeymen.... usually KO2, TKO3 etc etc. Cleverly is a far superior prospect in my opinion.
Not to mention Barrie Jones took his shots well for the most part before getting worn down. He's probably one of the best fighters Brook has faced. His power should be improving naturally as he's only a kid. But Hamed he certainly ain't, not even close. I'd love to see him face Aydin. Said it time and time again, his test will be under pressure.
Yeah.... either Aydin or even Bonsu if they don't fancy the riskier option.... though I'm not sure he'll be up to much after the hiding that Bailey gave him. Gomez would be a decent little intro to the US market, depending on who manages him - Warren and Arum are quite pally, would be good to see one of his youngsters on a card here vs Gavin or DeGale, in return for Kell going there to face him on a Pacquiao or Cotto card. It's not as if Kell is a name, hardly anyone has heard of him outside the hardcore fans.
Mike Jones is fighting a rematch with Karass on HBO in Feb on the Montiel vs Donaire card. Jones vs Brook in the US on a BAD card would be nice.
Barrie took it at ridiculously short notice too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rob, for my money, he is being showered with praise from Sky and built up as some sort of super prospect without justifying it once. Nobody is 'hating' on him, people are just keeping it real. What do you reckon is his best win Rob?
I like the guy as a boxer and believe he is one of our best prospects, love his style but like others I do wish he would have a few more good tests considering the position he is in right now. I think my mai problem with Brook is that the welterweight division is very good right now and he could be in alot of very good match ups from domestic level to fringe contenders. I really want to get excited about his upcoming fight every time he is announced on a bill but I am never put in that position which is a disapointment.
Ahh...Brook-Jones, the great days of Setanta. As others have said, he hasn't done that much yet people keep talking him up. Warren was pathetic when he said on Ringside that Pac-Mayweather not happening was holding up Brook's career as Pac is actually keeping hold of his WBO title atsch Taking on Watson and O'Donnell would be much better than fighting some of the sub-standard guys he's being facing.
He could actually do with fighting any of the last 3 fighters Aydin fought. Ouali is very tricky to deal with, Bonsu...is a bit chinny IMO but a step up from anyone Brook has faced and it would be interesting to see how his power measures up. Dan was a better boxer than I expected, could have easily got the W on another day where it doesn't take place in Turkey and the judges wouldn't get stabbed in the throat if they put in a fair scorecard.
On Paper its Jennings. He didn't really lose a second. Not a great fight but Jennings is in between British and European level. McIntye,, Bienas, Lomax all simular level. I agree the level of oppo he has faced is poor. The guys I have named would be decent for a Denton Vassell.
I agree with this entirely, but I suspect that he might turn out to be really good. Trouble is, Frank Warren rarely takes risks with his fighters, which I can see from a business point of view, but which does sometimes mean that we never get to find out how good a fighter is. I watched all his early fights and he looked the real deal. Unfortunately he is now just becoming protected. But I don't think that he is being protected because he is no good, I just think it is the usual Warren slow and steady. Unfortunately this means that it is already becoming too late for Brook to have a sustained run at the top, if he ever gets there.
Rob has misjudged Brooks style. Slick? Not typically British? Ingle not ring a bell? He's fought NO ONE so cannot be judged properly yet, apart from his habit of sticking his chin up in the air whenever he pulls out from throwing. Awful.
Bailey is a vulnerable career ten stoner but he'd be able to capatilise on Brooks horrendous errors. IMO.
