I regularly visit Azteca Gym in Bell, CA and have gotten to know Miguel Vazquez the IBF World Lightweight Champion. Someone close to him told me that Rios was going to fight him until "Grandpa" watched how he trained and realized that although Rios is a very good fighter that his discipline is not equal to Vazquez. The offer that was put on the table quickly came off! The source said that Acosta was selected because he is an intermittent fighter with a suspect chin.
The source told me that Rios allegedly lacks the discipline and maturity of a world class fighter. However, the same source told me that Rios is a world class talent and that if he had better discipline that he would be a world class talent.

Though this person has a bias I was wondering will Rios be a flash in the pan or will he become an elite fighter?

Miguel Vazquez presents a difficult style to anyone, but with Acosta they made a terrible mistake. Rios needs all the discipine to come through with anything but a KO loss.

    Oh well, good for us.

I think it will be an interesting fight Acosta and Rios. Though I have only seen one of Acosta's fights he seems to be the type of fighter Rios should KO.

    I think so.

He was pretty disciplined when constantly getting lowballed by Peterson. I was impressed. I'd have lost my temper.

wondering why no one is giving rios a shot here...acosta has rarely been seen, and honestly i think the peterson ass whoopin was more impressive than the antillon ko...the ko was beautiful, but antillon was coming in head first all night, and was actually winning the fight....can't imagine a tougher fighter with more power and pretty much the same stlye losing to acosta......

    we'll see though

Disciplined or not, I cant see him beating Acosta. He's all wrong for Rios, you should watch more of his fights.

I think Rios is gonna KO Acosta who from what I gather does not impress me as much as Rios does. I expect him to win the fight against Acosta. However, my concern is that Rios' lifestyle may prevent him from reaching his potential.

I suspect people who didn't follow the sport in 2010 will not know who he is in 20 years.

I don't believe he has the discipline to become an elite fighter. He is barely starting in his career and he already failed to make weight once, didn't he? That doesn't speak well of his mental state (in boxing). He only wants to "turn it on" when he is fighting a name opponent. That is a poor mentality to have, especially if you want to be number one for a number of years. He seems to have the physical tools to do good in boxing, but his mental lapses will be his shortfall. He'll balloon in weight against a nobody and then work like hell to lose weight when it really matters a la Ricky Hatton. It might work for a while, but sooner or later it is going to catch up with him.

    P.S.

He should KO Acosta. Antillon was more than holding his own against Acosta, but he was going in with his head stationary and got caught. You can't do that unless your name is Julio Cesar Chavez.

Rios did not have the normal time to prepare for Lowther. It was a short notice fight. Brandon walks around at 150 pounds but he can get down to 135 if given the time to prepare. This why at the age he is now he is moving up to 140. Rios does not let anyone outside his gym see what he does to train and prepare for a fight. I have seen him, he works his ass off and suffers for his sport and then it takes it out on his opponent. The stuff you saw on 24/7 and in prefight videos are just photo ops and are not a real example of his dedication to the sport. Rios KO 7

Anthony peterson is/was the real deal til he fought rios. Rios has too much determination even if he seems green. Would love to see him in with judah or holt.

Rios has lots of potential, if he workd very hard and stays active, he could really go somewhere.
