off course ... the only question is at which place? Somewhere between 15-25 sounds right. If they fight eachother then the winner definitely enter top 5-10
Not wishing to start a fight with classic, but surely the first question that must be asked of any ATG must be 'Who did he beat?', and neither brother has beaten anyone of note.
I think If Wlad fights for a long time and does not lose, he will be considered a great. But he can't afford another loss on his record to another third rate fighter. Thos losses combined with no great wins will prevent him from being a top teir great. But he may squeak in the botom of the list if he can unify (after his brother retires) and have a lengthy title reign. Despite being a better fighter than Wlad, Vitali has about no chance. He failed his test when it was time to pass the torch. Vitali will always do well in hypothetical match-ups, but he just has not accomplished enough to be considered a great fighter. Unless he fights till he's 45 and doesn't lose, or decides he feels like knocking out his brother. The he has a shot at great status.
The one when Chris Byrd made him quit on his stool like a fool and the one when Lennox Lewis carved his face open like a ripe melon. Everytime VK stepped up to face quality comp he failed, miserably. Byrd and a shot Lewis were his greatest adversaries and he couldn't stack up. That aint ATG material in my book.
I think top 50, if wlad will continue hes carrier for another 7 years without a loss and will be fighting top 20 heavyweight DEFENATLY ATG
The Klitchko brothers are nearsighted kings in a division of blind heavyweights. Not ATG, but possibly HOF.
Well to be fair, Vitali has taken some beat downs from some people of note, Lennox Lewis and Chris Byrd are pretty notable boxing figures.
I think at the end of the day, they'll both rate either in the high teens (ie 17-19) or low to mid 20's. Is that ATG? If it's not, it's close.
Chris Byrd was a top 3 HW or higher for over 5 straight years 2001-2006. If he's not of note I don't know who is. The only better scalp you can have on your resume from this time would be Lewis himself.
I hate to to uhmmmm.... but.. you see, uhmmmm..... While I agree about what you say about Byrd and Lewis is a true ATG. VK LOST to both of those guys. :deal
:huh Wlad beat Byrd twice. If you want to argue about Vitali find someone else..he did not make the Classic top 20 nor does he make mine.
Maybe I worded it wrong by saying no-one of any note (I meant multiple elite opponents and not just one anyway). Agreed, Byrd was the best out there to beat at the time, but that's more an indictment of the HW division than proof of Byrd's pedigree. I still maintain that the brothers' overall resume doesn't warrant ATG status unless the bar was lowered considerably.
I wonder how many people regarded Lennox as an ATG in 1999, before the Holyfield fights and 3-4 years before his retirement? With a little luck Wlad has another 3-4 years to go as a HW boxer. Let's judge him after he's retired.
