Roy Jones would smoke Hagler at middleweight, it wouldn't even be competitive.

First off,my point is that Hagler is one of the 5 greatest middleweights ever.I've only seen Erdei a few times, but is he one of the greatest 5 lightheavyweights ever?He had problems with Garay ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS,so would you rate him so high? You answered that yourself as you wrote,"...Garay is a fairly decent fighter...".My point obviously holds weight. So,can he seriously be rated higher than Hagler?Just curious:do you rate Erdei over Hagler?

    Hagler
Reason - He was a better MW, beat better fighters & was better than Hopkins prime for prime.

Smoke him? It wouldn't be competitive?

These guys are two elite level boxers, but your that certain that Jones would smoke him? Who did Jones 'smoke' who can be ranked up there with Hagler?

Also, this is the important part...the question is, who ranks higher?

If I thought Wlad Klitschko could beat Ali (which I don't)...that wouldn't mean I would rank him higher than Ali. I could give you more examples, but I can't be bothered.

All boxers are prone to struggle with opponents once in a while. It was only his 20th fight as a professional, and the rematch was only 1 fight later.

Erdei is top 5. Period. We are not having this discussion again.

Hopkins has done well, but he has sort of handpicked opponents and made his career longer with good cherrypicking, and he is great, but Hagler fought everyone when he had to, and that included before he won the title. Antuofermo, Hamsho, Briscoe,Hearns,Duran,Mugabi,Leonard, Sibson, Roldan.. All tough guys and all could have been decent champs. I pick Marvin in his prime and when it mattered. Hopkins has aged well and can still fight guys he handpicks, but prime vs. prime Marvin was better I think.

Hopkins and Toney, who are better than Hagler and would beat him also assuming Toney comes to fight.

I dont like to do ALL-TIME rankings as I find it hard to compare guys from lets say the early 1900's and the more modern era's. I think of this era, Erdei is in the top 5 LHW's, which I dont really think is arguable. Like I said, Garay is good, holds a win over Braehmer, and it was only Erdei's 20th and 21st fights respectively, which I dont consider to be too unimpressive.

Hopkins has more milestones ... 20 after he retires people will remember that .. if it wasn't for hearns duran and leonard .. we wouldn't really remember hagler would we? ... let's be honest now .. he was a greta champ but with out those names he wouldn't be where he is in history

Hopkins and Toney were not better than Marvin. That is an opinion, but nothing can back that up with fact. Marvin fought everyone he could fight and easily beat guys who usually were tough like Hamsho and Sibson. Toney would not know how to deal with Marvin at middleweight. If he couldn't deal much with Tiberi, Hagler would have been too much.

Erdei also struggled with Panamanian Tito Mendoza in Tito's last fight. That's significant because Mendoza lost a technical decision years before against Robert Allen at 160,lost to Librado Andrade at 168 as Mendoza was on the foor 3 times in that one,and also lost to Syd Vanderpool at 168.Yes everyone struggles with someone once in a while, but "top 5" Erdei struggled with Garay 2 times in a row.Come back,Herb.I need to check your spelling again.

So let's get this right.Past or present or in any era, you're saying Erdei is equal to or better than Hagler. Is that what you really want to say?Just making sure.

Hagler was considered one of the greatest middleweights ever BEFORE he fought Hearns.

BUT that's EXACTLY how this debate got started with the other poster.99% of the boxing public believes that Hagler was one of the greatest middleweights ever. Now,once again, you didn't answer my question.Do you believe that Erdei is equal to or greater than Hagler?
