Hagler can't beat SRL, a welterweight coming off a 3 yr layoff, but I'm betting dollars against doughnuts you're going to tell us he can beat Joe Calzaghe, an EXTREMELY high quality SMW champ. Aren't you?
If Hagler handles the jump in weight alright, I'd favor him to win a decision. Although Calzaghe is taller, Hagler actually had the longer arms and reach, had the better jab and outside skills and also more refined in-fighting skills. I think Calzaghe's best chance would be to use in and out movement, and throw his quick flurries and try to outwork Hagler. He had quicker hands, and could still hold his own on the inside with his tricks (okay, holding and hitting), but maybe not stay there too long where he's not as refined. I don't think it's a blow-out by any means though, like so many people say.
I hate that **** too. Hopkins is dirty as hell and whines way too much when opponents are dirty to him. Actually in general, I just don't like it when fighters whine too much to the ref when someone is dirty (unless it's really extreme). Someone fouls you, you foul them back. The fact that Hopkins is dirty as he is and whines to the ref just makes it much worse.
Nobody likes that. He only did it when he was older, and I think he thought he was being crafty and trying to eke out small advantages and take a rest, but the blowback and general disgust was so strong that he gave up on it by the time of the Pascal fight. I never said Hard Nard is the most likeable guy in the world, just a great fighter.
Hopkins didn't only do it when he was old. He also whined to the ref when Robert Allen retaliated to Bernard's many fouls. Hopkins was hitting Allen low (and Allen flopped like a fish), headbutting Allen, and then Allen retaliates by holding and hitting. Then Hopkins makes a big thing about it and acts like Allen did something so horrible.
I'm talking about rolling on the floor acting like he can't get up in his later fights. I don't mind a little acting and a little working the ref, especially in a title fight, but that **** was out of bounds.
good analysis as always. and sure, when you talk about guys on that level, there are never any blow outs
That wasn't the question. We're not comparing Sibson and Lee.We're comparing the Hagler of the Sibson fight and the Hagler of the Mugabi fight.Simple question. Is it the same Hagler?
The same Leonard that fought Tommy to a draw AFTER the Hagler fight and the same Trinidad that got a GIFT against Oscar DeLaHoya before he fought Hopkins?
Once again as you haven't answered the question. If Hagler wasn't shot, why did Leonard challenge him when he did after discussing fighting Marvin for at least 6 years before they fought?Even Leonard has publicly admitted that he challenged Marv when he did after watching the Mugabi fight.
Not at all. When ALL the facts are in,it's not diffucult proving Marv a better middleweight than B-Hop.
