Did Hopkins and Jones Jnr miss out on what would have been their most defining fights?

Hopkins avoided Calzaghe for years, in a fight that would have made him a serious legend if he had of won. Instead Hopkins waited till he had the odds stacked in his favour with getting Calzaghe to fight at a new weight in America with 3 American judges and Cortez as ref, and got beat.
But just imagine if Hopkins had of challenged himself against the SMW Calzaghe when he was MW champ and pulled off the upset and won.
Calzaghe was willing to let Hopkins have the fight in America.
It would have been Hopkins biggest victory.
Did Hopkins miss out on a defining fight?

Jones never seemed to want to fight Michalczewski the man at LHW. Michalczewski would have been Jones biggest victory against a then undefeated 2 weight champ who had claim to all of Jones belts.
Michalczewski was WBO LHW champ who made about 23 defences and won and vacated the WBA & IBF belts and beat Rocchigiani who was wrongly stripped of his WBC belt.
Michalczewski was the man at LHW and should have been Ring champ for his victory over Hill, but the Ring just awarded its belt to Jones out of popularity in America, and didnt follow the original line of you have to beat the man to be the man policy. Michalczewski beat the man.
Michalczewski was willing to let Jones have the fight in America.
If Jones had of won it would have been his biggest victory.
Did Jones miss out on a defining fight?

The thing is, Jones would probably have beaten Michalczewski even with that disgraceful Chin of his, but he chose to duck him. It was only after he got his Fragile Glass Mandible Shattered by Tarver that he decided to throw caution to the wind. He thought "**** it, my Chin is officially made of wet toilet paper, I might as well fight this guy". That is why he deludedly fought Zaggers.:rofl:patsch

Jones wanted nothing to do with germany and Michalczewski fought only once outside Germany in Poland and once in Portugal. He wasn't looking to leave hes country. Jones would have gotten robbed.
Tarver beat a 35 year old Jones whose whole career was based on hes leg movement. Cudos for the KO but it was a fluke (im my eyes). That KO ****ed Jones up and thats why he looked **** in Johnson fight. The reason you saw glimpses of vintage Roy in the third Tarver fight was cos Jones still had the hand speed but the legs were gone. Tarver kept connecting with jab after jab after jab.

the emphatic answer to the question is yes.

both hopkins and jones took the easy way out and they were allowed to do this because of the ignorant, delusional, brain-washed american public.

the american public was fooled that much by hbo and ring magazine that they thought that b-level plodders like tarver / johnson are a superior opponent to DM , that beating up welterweights is superior to fighting joe calzaghe :-(

jones and hopkins took the easy way out and they got away with it purely because of the narrow minded ignorance that is synonamous with america :deal

outta sight, outta mind springs to mind, most americans don't even own a passport, if fighters arn't pushed right in front of their face then they haven't got a clue about anything that is happenning in the rest of the world - jones and hopkins benefited hugely from that and got away with ducking because of that :dead

I dont think so. They both would have been very big fights for each of them, two of the biggest of their respective careers. However, I dont think Michalczewski would have been a bigger fight than Ruiz, nor would Calzaghe be more defining for Hopkins than Trinidad.

Interesting points. Jones decided to gamble after finding out that his chin was vulnerable. I guess we looked past how hurt he was by Del Valle all those years ago.
Jones may have beaten Michalczewski, but Im not convinced. Michalczewski after a slow start, I think would have given Jones alot of problems and we will never know if Jones was fighting clean or not. I think Michalczewski would have beaten Jones, why else was Jones constantly making excuses not to fight him?

To begin with calzaghe never chose to fight out of the uk and when he did he got embarrassed by his grandpa Hopkins. Aside from that never granted Hopkins the rematch everyone except calzghe wanted. Darius got beat by julio gonzales he would get destroyed by RJ. :rofl toney was Rjs best win and toney was better than anyone europe had to offer at the time.

Michalczewski was willing to travel, As you note, Jones wasnt. You have already noted that Michalczewski had already done more travelling than Jones had then, and then say Dariusz wasnt looking to leave his country :patsch.
Jones said it took some years for his body to adapt back to LHW, and when he did, he looked good beating fighters like Ajamu, Trinidad etc but then came his real test against a true elite fighter in Calzaghe and he wasnt able to compete. Still Jones looked good being the first fighter to stop Lacy and beating Sheika in 5 rounds who recently gave world rated LHW Diaconu a tough fight.

How wrong can someone be. Calzaghe fought outside of the UK more than once, and didnt get embarrased by Hopkins. He won and beat the top LHW in his first fight at a new weight :patsch. Also the fight was offered to Hopkins years ago in America. Are you really this ignorant.
A past peak Dariusz lost a disputed decision to Gonzalez, but you could also note that Gonzalez beat G Johnson who destroyed Jones.
Toney who was losing to D Thadzi :patsch.
    Thanks for the laughs
