yeah Briscoe, I misspoke. That's why I said I don't like to say too much about Monzon, I don't know his career well enough and haven't seen the fights. According to boxrec he got a very wide UD over Briscoe, Hagler won a close UD, there was no doctor stoppage. You're thinking of someone else. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3oQZ7Yf3K0&feature=player_embedded#
Right, because it's so hilarious to think that a ****ing murderous punching Trinidad who was on a KILLING spree and knocking fools dead in the ring could EVER stand up to SRL after a 3 year layoff and past his best weight.
You're correct. I was thinking of Hagler's fight with the other Philly Middleweight Cyclone Hart, whom he stopped in the 9th. Either way, the Hagler/Briscoe fight wasn't close. The details are as I remembered, I just confused the stoppage. Hagler was rarely troubled. Against Monzon Bennie managed to stagger him badly up against the ropes, although he was being largely out-boxed off the backfoot the rest of the way, similar to the Hagler fight.
He was on a killing spree? He'd beaten one of the worst Middleweight champions of all time in William Joppy before being trounced by Hopkins. What else did he prove at the weight? Even in his prime he was never much good against movers. Oscar scarcely offered any offensive resistance for the final 4 rounds and still Tito was unable to land anything of note. Leonard would make him look like he was standing in cement before shoe-shining his ears off when Tito attempted to get set. Let me guess, Tito would've also beaten Hagler? Even the well shop-worn version that Leonard got to would've beaten a hole through Tito's skull.
I DO have all of Trinidad's fights. Joppy wasn't that bad. He was far from great but he wasn't awful, and Tito was killing fighters of ALL kinds, movers, sluggers, whatever. He hit them, hurt them, and finished them unless their names were Pernell Whitaker or Camacho, and who the **** doesn't have trouble knocking out sweet pea or Hector Camacho? SRL in his WW prime would handle Tito. That version of SRL was very far removed from his prime, and Tito was very near his. Prime Ali is a better fighter than Larry Holmes, but he lost to him anyway at the time they met. That's how it works. I'm not making any predictions on Tito - Hagler, Marvin did well with fighters who came to him and had a great chin, so he matches up pretty well with Trinidad.
Since everyone's so determined to disrespect Tito Trinidad so they can continue to disrespect Bernard Hopkins, here's a little reminder. Felix Trinidad was a baaaaad mother****er. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njrK6gPV_II[/ame]
He was a badass at 154 as well, and a badass at 160 and would have been champ until he ran into a wall named Bernard Hopkins, which is my point exactly. 'Easily' Hagler lol.. get the **** outta here.
I believe Trinidad was an excellent fighter, but just what fighter did he beat in his "killing spree" that would indicate he beats Leonard? And Leonard drew with Tommy at 154 AFTER the Hagler fight.EITHER ONE of those guys beats any version of Tito.
You make it sound like he was this great middleweight when he was 3-2 at that weight,3-1 if you discount his loss to Winky.Hearns was bigger, faster, hit harder and just a better fighter than Tito and Hagler destroyed him.Hagler destroys Tito at 160.
