Didnt John Murray call Khan a joke after the Paulie fight. If you dish it out you should be able to take it especially when you have not beaten any one with a pulse.

Same reasons as with this fight. They couldn't find an opponent, there was also some issues with the date too, in the end they binned the idea

On the Scene, Roach has just said it's most likely to be Peterson.

It's an absolute farce. It comes back to his team just being totally inexperienced, greedy and being utterly clueless.. they are now going to end up paying Peterson far more than what they could of got Mccloskey for, stupidity.

I kinda agree. Even though we've not got the exact numbers, one can easily work out that the McCloskey fight and the deal they wanted, would have been more financially rewarding for Khan.

But the thing is, Peterson was always the fight they wanted. I get the sense that they sat back and waited for the Bradley-Alexander result before deciding on who to take a warm-up fight against. If Alexander won, they would have picked McCloskey. But since it was Bradley, Peterson was the more sensible choice. Despite what we may think of Khan's team, money not have been the deciding factor for them in picking this particular fight.

Whatever the case, I'm not concerned about who would give them the better deal. I just wanted an opponent who will better aid Khan in his development. Peterson will do the job.

Exactly.. Peterson is the most logical opponent for Khan to fight before Bradley

is that any worse than Bradley claiming Maidana would break Khan's jaw?

    Not only claiming, but wishing!

Every fighter ****ing does it, and Khan's no worse than others. I don't like it either, but I also don't like it when one fighter gets singled out for it. I mean so what if Khan calls Murray a bum? This is the same Murray who's trash-talked Khan plenty of times in the past.

Yeah I agree, Peterson is by far the best fight.

However, with the pressures placed on them over the last 3-4 weeks, and the damage done, am I pretty sure this hasn't been part of the masterplan. Unless he really pulls a performance out of the bag, or its a PPV smash, Sky certainly won't be giving him a date on such open ended terms like that for a while.

There's talking doing the rounds this morning that there is no way Alexander is now going to take $300K given that he's the only viable opponent left, and that he has rejected it and sent them a counter offer back of what he will take. If he plays it smart he can do really well out of this financially, given what he'd be getting for a bout in the states.

Wasn’t $300k the offer they gave the first time round? Which, by the way, was pretty reasonable considering Peterson only got around $50-75k (?) against Ortiz in his last fight. Yes, it’ll only be normal for Peterson to request more this time round, but one thing’s for sure, Khan’s team aren’t being greedy here. They were actually offering Peterson a fair deal, and if those figures are near the button, Khan wasn't wrong when he said Peterson out-priced himself. And now, I assume they’ll be upping the offer considering the limited time they have.

    Edit:

Actually, thinking about it, $300k was more than just a fair deal for Peterson, it was a very good one!!

Supposedly they offered him $200K the first time around, he rejected it, and then began the last few weeks of Mccloskey et al.. a few days ago they made an offer of $300K, which he's rejected and sent a counter-offer.

Both the offers are great for Peterson, much more than he's made before. However the problem TK has is that every fighter is aware of how much money is in the pot.

I think Team Khan are being very fair to Peterson here. Despite what’s in the pot, when you weigh up the risks and rewards for both fighters, an 80/20 split (what it roughly seems to be) in favour of Khan sounds right. It can safely be said that Peterson was out-pricing himself the first time round, and is definitely taking advantage here at the last minute.

Whatever the case, I hope something can be worked out.

Other than being black and American, can anybody tell me why Peterson is apparently a great opponent to prepare Khan for Bradley?!?!?!? He ain't.

He is, at this stage, a decent choice of opponent. Ortiz would be even better, but he garners a bit too much wonga for a homecoming fight.
