Floyd could have been so much bigger

    Mitchell.
    Judah.
    Baldomir.
    Hatton.
    Cotto.
    Margarito.

    Mosley.

You don't think that enhances Mayweather's legacy? You don't think that would somewhat stop people from calling his resume weak above 140-7lbs? If you say no, you're lying.

Nonsense.....Simply put, no Mosley's legacy was not enchanced by beating cheating Margarito. Mayweather fought and beat the lineal champion of the division the same time Margo had his little WBA strap.

And with all that said Mayweather was willing to fight Margarito as Arum admitted, but it came as part of a multifight deal with Hatton, and Cotto and he refused to be locked in for he thought were low purses so he broke from Top Rank.

Like I said, I agree that a guy like Pac is an ATG and would enhance May's resume. Margarito would be just another bum who everyone would say " so what, P-WIll beat him, Pac and Mosley destroyed him"

I'll give you Cotto because although I think he was overrated, I respect him. But no, Margarito does nothing.

Sadly though this is also true for Floyd. When you hear Floyd you think of Pac and vice versa. But you think about how Floyd ducked the guy instead of how great their fight was. This can only hurt his legacy over the years.

So Mosley's last great performance against a dangerous guy who walked through walls to beat Cotto is not seen as a career enhancing victory? Bollocks.

Whether Mayweather was willing or not, he still didn't step into the ring with the guys he should have. I don't blame him for fighting Baldomir, he picked up the lineal belt, but he didn't progress from that and beat the dangerous guys he should have.

Whether people would disregard either the Cotto and Margarito victory (that's what tends to happen anyway) after Mayweather beat them, they would still enhance his resume at certain points at his time at 147lbs, and since he came back.

Margarito after Cotto would be Mayweather's best victory at 147lbs, even including the Mosley victory.

I don't really rate Margarito, but what he lacks in skills, he makes up for in chin and heart. Like I said in my other post, whether Mayweather is out of his league or not...a victory over him would certainly do his resume above 140lbs wonders.

So you understand the Baldomir fight fair enough? What was he supposed to do after that? His former promoter already told him that the fight with Marg came with a multiple fight contract at low gurantees and that the DLH fight wasn't going to happen. Well he went on to make the DLH fight which was the richest fight in boxing history and he's been getting huge purses ever since. It not his fault that he couldn't do business with Arum.

And like I said, he schooled the Man who raped Margarito. I know that A>B>C doesn't automatically mean that A>C in boxing, but I think its clear that Mayweather had the skills to beat Marg easily, and besides Marg has ultimately been exposed and he wouldn't have done a damn thing for Mayweather's legacy.

Boxing's a business...but these 3 guys (Cotto, Margarito, Mosley) all fought each other in a period when the Welterweight division was back on top. Grudge's are held, but they can easily be bypassed if the boxer really wants it...and any of these names enhance Mayweather's legacy to no end.

Mayweather had the skills to beat him, but Margarito had the heart and chin to keep coming. It may not have tested Mayweather physically, because if he was smart enough, he could make Margarito look like an amateur. But it definitely would have tested his concentration, and mental strength.

I'll defend Mayweather when it's needed, but I can't really/don't feel the need to defend him when it comes to these match-ups...whether they were 100% his fault or not. They didn't happen, and the majority would so that these names in that time period would have enhanced his legacy.

Bob Arum was not going to let Cotto fight Mayweather. Sorry. In fact, Mayweather's name NEVER even came out of Cotto's mouth for the longest time. And Bob Arum never implied he wanted a Cotto/Mayweather fight, and there were never any negotiations to try and make that fight.

Mayweather asked at 140 for Cotto and got a response: "He's not ready. Too green."

And again at 147 he wanted the multiple fight deal to stay with Arum and Top Rank which included Cotto and Margarito along with non-Top Rank competition in Hatton and Oscar. Arum did not want to put up the money. "That just wasn't in the cards.." -- Bob Arum

If Bob Arum wasn't such a cheap ass, those 2 fights (Cotto and Margarito) would have already happened. End of story.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but basically what you are saying is that you don't care why the fights didn't happen, they just didn't happen. You understand however that Mayweather made millions more by going the route he did, and that it was the smarter move and the better business decision.

If it were you, would honestly sign a multifight contract with your promoter, when you can make millions more, and become the face of the sport and the cash king by going out on yout own?

I watch boxing to see the best bouts...I could care less about the money aspect of the sport (as you can tell from my avatar), or how much said boxer makes, or he took this bout to become the cash cow. The money excuse is thrown about by fans at their own convenience, only when it helps them in their argument.

Mayweather vs Cotto/Margarito...didn't happen. I don't care who was at fault, but they didn't happen...and it would have enhanced his legacy.

Well you're entitled to feel the way you want to feel, but the reality is that's the way the world works, and that's certainly the way boxing works. Its all about the money. Boxing is a multi million dollar business, bot some underground fight club in the local neighborhood where people fight for fun.

Just taken this from another thread...like I said, I would defend Mayweather if he was in a defendable position, but he is not.

Not all bouts that could have happened are Mayweather's fault...and other fans who don't like Mayweather take advantage of this. But if you look at the above, it's very hard to defend, and turning to money, and his relationship with Arum doesn't really do it for me...especially if you're trying to defend the facts above.

All I see is a Top Rank round-robin tournament AFTER Bob Arum refused to put the money up to keep Mayweather fighting for him. (Which included Cotto and Margarito)

Bob Arum did not want to pay Mayweather, period. Bob Arum is on record saying this as well. If the promoter is not going to get you the fights you want, for the money you want, there is no reason to do business with him. Bob Arum is also on record saying that he did not think Mayweather could generate that kind of money.

Bob was wrong, and now he claims all the ducking nonsense AFTER he is the one who pulled the money off the table. The problem is most people have short memories, and Bob Arum talks a lot of **** and lies.

Come on bro, you've got to be smarter than that. Out of the list above, he fought Mosley. Pac, Margarito, Clottey, and Cotto are all Top Rank fighters which makes it easy for fights between them to be made because they really don't have a choice since Arum controls all of them. As many posters including myself above mentioned, Arum lowballed Floyd which ruined their relationship and that's why we haven't seen him working with Top Rank since. Arum plays fair, and we already would have seen Mayweather school Cotoo and Marg.
