Have to say Podge i look forward to reading that, but speaking to Ryle Nugent today, who i think deserves some credit for not hiding and showing a willingness to speak openly about his decision (he rang me twice), i think he is genuine.

He admitted he really would love to show the fight and it seems his hands are tied. He was upset and genuinely so , i think, with people suggesting ulterior motives. Plus he had valid counter arguments for all my points.

I like everyone here am gutted it wont be on RTE, and i do think a National Broadcaster they have an obligation to show it if it is in the Public Interest, but it seems they just dnt have the money.

I am afraid to say it looks like RTE will not be broadcasting any pro boxing this year.

Fair play Jonny, you've done some sterling work in the past few weeks and this is the latest in a long line of superb in-depth articles (no homo, is that what I say, Mush?)

I think you posted the Ryle reply just as I posted my news! Nugent sounds very genuine, but the politician I've quoted seems to think differently.

It's an odd 'un, no doubt. I think something will give either way before the fight though, the boxing community can be nagging SOBs when we want something badly enough.

That's true lads, and I was also talking to him and agree Jonny he came across as genuine.

But the fact remains that RTE will not, as it stands, be showing the fight, and it's not right.

Hence tomorrow's bit in the sun.

The boxing community can be nagging SOBs when we want something badly enough ---- indeed!

i think the nagging is a good thing!

at least is shows boxing fans are loyal and care. there is a great chance for another TV company to come in here and get a lot of good will not to mention ratings. I am sure TV3 would like to come across like they are saving the day- and that they are more stable than RTE.

The more boxing fans go on the more chance of it being shown-if we are doing articles, sending emails etc on it not being RTE imagine the fan fare another TV company showing it will get!!!!

And i still think a rich business man or company that come in could get the same good will and publicity!

dnt get too excited re that-they were 99percent sure RTE were going to show it after a meeting before- but we should all get on to tv3 now and put pressure on. Let them know 450,000 people tuned in to watch Casey on the Saturday night show. Imagine what it will be like for a world title fight.

Have tv3 news been out to talk to casey like rte???

Michael Conlan was left bewildered by the decision which took away his flyweight title last night.

Incredibly all five judges had scored in favour of the St John Bosco man (15-9, 16-10, 11-8, 10-5, 12-9) but the computer verdict was 6-3 in favour of Declan Milligan of St Paul’s. "BELFAST TELEGRAPH"

Yet another brutal decison in amateur boxing !!!!

O'Kane boxing in WSB tonight at 8.00 apparently. Just heard today. Also heard hes very homesick but Lawrence and Charlene are out there for his fight so I hope he performs well. Not going to be able to see it because I already had plans but hopefully someone sticks it up on youtube....

Haughian was very poor against McIntyre alright. He just couldn't handle his southpaw stance (which was weird since he has been sparring with Dudey for years)

Maybe you're right and Haughian is just quite average? I thought he definately looked the fitter boxer in the last two rounds and was piling on the pressure without ever really landing any good clean shots. He said that if it was a 12 rounder instead of a 10 rounder, he would have stopped McIntyre. Not so sure about that myself....

I know it would be preferable to have the Casey fight on terrestrial television but have Sky not showed any interest in showing it? Just out of interest like...

Well done Johnny, Podge and Leonard with keeping the pressure on RTE and getting some answers.

As one of the politicians said in Podge's article, Ireland has excelled in boxing and this just makes these decisions even more unpalatable.

I think Nugent from RTE is full of crap. He is getting the fight for free and it is the most significant fight since the days of Bernard Dunne - there is no excuse. I do not buy the poverty line for one second it is bull****. How much revenue would they make with ad breaks between every round of the fight?

Boxing isnt his game, he is just one of these typical exec's who has no appreciation of the sweet science.
