a film of johny Tapia woul;d be good. ive been meaning to get a copy of his book, which i hear is a great read
A film about Daniel Mendoza would be class, Jewish lad, wins the hearts of many, brings a completely new style to prize fighting and dies peniless. For more modern times I'd make a film about Eamon Magee, amazing life both inside and outside the ring. I'd put his knockdown of Hatton and his fight with Neary as the main fight scenes
Tom Crib V's Bill Richmond and then Tom Molineaux. No need to make Crib a villain like they did to Max Bear (taking the star of David off his shorts to dodge the anti-semitisim bullets) its just a great story. Stephen Graham on steroids as Cribb, Terrence Howard as Richmond and Idris Elba as Molineaux. Scrap that, its impossible to cast. Tex Rickards first promotion, the Gans V's Nelson Lightweight Title fight. Staring either Bodie or Poot from the Wire as Gans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Nelson and some beaut like Adrian Brody as Rickard.
I particularly like how I cast a Samoan as 'The Great White Hope' Robert Carlysle wanted to make a film about Benny Lynch in the 90's, he's probably too old now. James McAvoy maybe? That is a great story that doesn't need any Hollywood interference.
Missed the cast, quality. I liked this bit best 'Fitz as a boy, gets bullied. We see a montage of him going through his teens as getting stronger as he learns his trade as a Blacksmith.' Yeh, Lynch would be a great story. So would McGowan actually, a father and son team take on the boxing world and do it their own way, against the boxing community, and win a world title.
Yep, a typical Victorian era instrumental plays (think the Hovis ad) as we see three different actors as Fitz, 11 years old, his Father (Mickey Rourke) showing him the first steps to being a blacksmith, a 16 year old becoming adept at it, and then, a big strong arm smacks metal on petal, pan back to a wide shot revealing Considine as the adult Fitz, built like an Ox FITZ (Yokel Accent) 'Old man,I'm goin to Australia.' FATHER FITZ 'But why Son?' FITZ 'I've just met a bloke called Jem Mace. He gave me my first boxing lesson and I beat a Circus Bear to death in twenty seconds'. Close-Up: Mickey Rourke sighs, and says, lamenting. FATHER FITZ Do what you must boy. CUT TO: EXT. Australian Sea-DAY. Cue triumphant music as Fitz, wearing a flat cap and looking filthy, is on a ship nearing land in Oz. Eddie Murphy has a cameo as Peter Jackson :rofl
