Hatton slated Mayweather continually to get the bout.
Mayweather chose to come out of retirement, everyone was made aware...and Marquez stepped up, literally.

Money should not get in the way of legacy. Cotto and Margarito would enhance his legacy above 140-7lbs. My whole argument right there. Now I've got to go out.

I'm speaking completely on biasedly here, but Floyd has the highest ring IQ or second highest if you want to put Bernard there in boxing right now. People also like to say he has the best natural ability. This is why he's so good in H2H fantasy matchups. Floyd has more potential than Manny to be rank in the top 10 p4p. I'll say that Manny is ranked higher now, but Floyd has more potential to be rated higher

I agree, his ability to not get hit, when he does that shoulder roll is so impressive.

You're right about these guys calling him out and that made him come out of retirement to fight them, but it also proves another point about Cotto
Hatton called out Floyd after the Castillo fight
Marquez asked and pursued a fight with Floyd
Mosley walked into the ring during Floyd's interview ans asked for a fight
Mayweather came into an interview and said Manny didn't want to fight him and said why hasn't he called me out yet, then Manny and Bob Arum send Floyd and offer

But we hear nothing from Cotto, we at least heard something from Margarito, but never Cotto

Cotto wasn't next for Mayweather after Hatton because Cotto was set to fight Margo and De La Hoya. Cintron lost to Margo who was set to fight Cotto, Paul Williams lost to Quintana. Mosley lost to Cotto.

Now if Mayweather wanted to stay active he could have fought one or 2 of the guys who just lost and waited for Cotto to fight Margo and De La Hoya. But since Margo won he would have fought one fight vs one of the guys who just lost, and then possibly Margo.

Still none of these fights were guaranteed because if Margo doesn't get caught cheating vs Mosley then they would have re matched. And who knows if Arum would have been willing to accept Mayweather's purse split if he had other options which he has an abundance of. Arum would have been perfectly fine with freezing Mayweather out for leaving him.

I don't think Mayweather thought Cotto was going to lose though. I don't think he rated Margo as high as other people do. I believe Mayweather's plan was to retire and stay out of the picture. Allow Cotto to beat Margo and De La Hoya and become a massive superstar. Come out of retirement facing a tune up, Then face Cotto in a HUGE money fight and retire for good..

Nah Cotto did say something to the tune of "Mayweather needs to stop making excuses and fight me around the time he retired". But Arum wasn't putting Cotto in with Mayweather until after Margo and DLH anyway.

How could you say that! After only fighting Hatton, ODH, you make that sorry excuse. He has the best defence in boxing, that he's better than SRR, SRL, Ali ... Floyd fans criticize Cotto, Pac and Margarito for lacking in defense, that they are easy to hit and "block punches with their faces", BUT these guys did not retire/take a vacation. Pac could justifiably quit boxing and live off his winnings, but has not. Financially he is already well-off. This "hit and don't get hit" style of fighting Floyd has taken to the extreme, simply by avoiding rather than seeking worthy competition through retirement, vacation and whatever reason pops up in mind. If Floyd fought all 3, POSSIBLY his body would break down and needs a VACATION to give his "body time to heal." Floyd fans, your idol has let you down many times, he couldn't care less! "wish he'd taken that route though ... ROBBED of fighter of the decade", YOU WISH! It's not going to happen, ever!

The list of big or credible names around Floyd's weights as he moved up who he didn't fight is just mind boggling.

Dude, Floyd could **** on these guys faces and tell them it's rain, and they'd believe him. Floyd fanboys don't operate in reality.

Floyd has had more than 30 fights before Hatton and Oscar. Floyd has been boxing since he was 7. I'm not talking about head injuries and injuries you get when beaten up, I'm talking about the ones you get from training constantly. It's like any athlete when they get into their 30's. Look at the 24/7 before the Hatton fight, Floyd had to get constant treatment for his hands, shoulders, and back. All of those are common injuries many boxers get and Floyd needed time to heal up

And yet others with styles that give them more damage to their bods, continue to fight on. You have an excuse for everything Floyd does don't ya.

Floyd is the best of this generation. Marg, Cotto, Clottey, were all just a couple of B fighters under the same promotional company who fought each other and somehow fooled people into thinking that they were elite fighters who could challenge Floyd.

Many people disagree with me, but I think Floyd is very..... Not confident in his abilitys. I think he's one of the best fighters of our generation, and definitley the best in his weight area, So i think he took a vacation because he was scared of losing, although I dont think he should of been.

Yeah that's true, but Floyd cares about himself too much for all that. That's why he has his hit and not get hit mentality. He's seen what boxing has done to Ali, Taylor and even in his uncle and dad. Floyd wanted to retire after Bladomir and then Oscar became available, then he wanted to retire after that and he gave the fans they wanted in Hatton. So he did do the fans a favor in that. I wish he would have taken it a step farther and challenged Cotto, but he was already planned to fight Margarito
I'll use this timeline once again

Floyd beats Oscar May 5, 2007
Paul Williams beats Margarito July 14, 2007
Cotto beats Mosley November 10, 2007
Floyd beats Hatton December 8, 2007
Quitana beats Williams February 9, 2008
Margarito beats Cotto July 26, 2008
Mosley beats Margarito January 24, 2009
